One episode in, 3 up for viewing ATM which may get finished tonight.

Anyone else watching? Saw a YouTube video with Jesse James West and the 'big guy' , a Dutch body builder who seemed a nice guy.

Spoiler
The start really got us. This is not Reacher! He wouldn't do that , or that, or that!!!

Hmmmm..... Can't seem to edit my post after it eventually appeared, but here's the video I referred to...

Also, hope the spoiler thing worked too! It doesn't hide it for me, but maybe that's the way it is for the OP?

ATM? That's very rude in some circles and I can't figure out what it is in this context.

Onzadog inadvertently giving away his streaming habits there 😜

Just about to login to Netflix for reacher.... Looking forward, hoping a bit more together than S2

Was late to the Reacher party, only just finished season two. (Late to everything streaming to be honest)

Really enjoyed the first two seasons. Second one had less graphic violence, presumably for rating purposes, a bit less dark.

It's on Prime, not Netflix and the spoiler is showing for me.

I started S2 but didn't get chance to finish as its not MrsF's thing. Given I'll be off sick for a while and MrsF is out this weekend, I'll get watching.

Ah, sorry about the spoiler, hopefully doesn't actually spoil anything. Maybe user error , but I've no idea.

Anyway we're not so thrilled after two episodes, but we'll undoubtedly watch the full series.  Just lots of 'not Reacher' stuff and things so obvious it's just too stupid.  Oh well...

Yes, I was watching The Shield with a mate BITD and they did a bust on a porn ring. One of the directors asked an undercover cop posing as a porn actor, "Do you do ATM?" My mate and I were both, "WTF is ATM?" so we Googled it.

I had a quick search but couldn't find "that" definition,  so ignorance is probably bliss.

I don't mind a bit of 'brain  out' action  now and again, but Reacher just seems ( to me) to be a bit too Dumbass.

Some of the (really bad)acting made me feel like I was watching a stream  from  Channel Proud Boy 😜

Possibly because that's the level of the books too.

It's not exactly Shakespeare.

I expected all those things too, and yet (god knows why) I still expected some higher levels of sense from it lol!

Continuously creeping around some super secure fancy guys house roof and grounds and there's essentially no security cameras or anything , same with the warehouse, on his phone all the time etc.

I know it's brains out TV and books (which is why I loved the books), I just expected it not to be quite so daft and predictable. He's a lot smarter in the books.

Any how episode 3 this evening with a pizza or kebab I reckon 😀

P.S. Can anyone tell me how to use the spoiler function? :/

I like Reacher - very easy, brain-out watching.  Watched the first two episodes of series 3 and enjoyed it so far.

I liked series 1, I think I watched the first episode of series 2 and never went back to it...I'm still not feeling any desire to watch.

Is massively more watchable than the Tom Cruise versions.

I think series 1 ended the right way so series 2 wasn't something I was looking for and after watching episode 1 of series 2, it hadn't drawn me in enough.

Is series 2 as good as 1? If so, I'll get watching it...and maybe then move on to series 3.

I thought they were both good, maybe in different ways. The first showed more violence and had a darker edge to it. The second had more back story, a bit lighter in tone, less visible gore. Felt they were maybe pitching it for a lower age rating.

Be dull if we all liked the same stuff though.

The general consensus (from reviews etc) was that S2 was nowhere close to the standard of S1; from my point of view it felt lazy, clichéd, riding on the success of S1.

S1 had strong supporting characters, S2 had none of that. It felt simplistic even by Reacher standards.

S3 is much more promising although yes, the fact that he can stroll around a supposedly super secure mansion and grounds whenever he wants is stretching credibility a bit.

Enjoying S3 (for brainless viewing), and have enjoyed the books (for brainless reading), but Alan Ritchson just doesn't 'do it' as Reacher for me. He's way too body-builder buff, so obviously strong and muscular that it's not really credible that the bad guys would think they have a chance of taking him down in a fight in the street. When I first started reading the books, I pictured Reacher as being more of a Liam Neeson figure in the 'Taken' movies; a little older, craggier, grittier, hidden steel & toughness rather than a body builder poster boy with a t-shirt and jeans painted on.

Yeah, I always think that's one of the (many!) things in the books that requires some suspension of disbelief - that his size is the first thing you notice about him, and at the same time it doesn't make the bad guys think twice.

Agree that Ritchson would be a better Reacher if he spent a lot less time in the gym.

I’m enjoying it although I wish they stick close to the books rather than finding ways to bring in the characters from S2.

As for Alan playing reacher then I’m ok with it as he is supposed to be huge. He is a million times more credible than Tom cruise was when he played him

The books make a substantial point on how big he is. It was always one of the complaints about Tom Cruise playing the character in the two films although I agree with you - it'd be more plausible to have a regular guy than someone built like a brick shithouse.

Still, it's decent enough brain-out entertainment. And so far it's way better than S2!

Big is beleivable - and a big guy is going to be naturally stronger than most. Richardson would be beleivable if he wasn't wearing that light grey shirt (or no shirt). Ironically, just how he appears in ministry of ungentlemanly warfare. still with the physical presence, jsut not looking like he spends hours every day in the gym.

Liam Neeson figure in the 'Taken' movies; a little older, craggier,

Season 1 was book 1, in which Reacher was early/mid 30's, having been recently been downsized out of the army post cold war, and had only recently begun his travelling hobo lifestyle.

Amazon is just picking random books that make the best TV series and putting them in a modern setting.

I think he was supposed to just age with the years since then, more recent books he has noted his physical decline into what would be his 50s although I guess trying to slow that down now to eke some more books out of it before he is too old to be plausible.

Im not sure any of it is plausible!?!

Season 1 was surprisingly enjoyable, S2 was a bit of a let down, Ill give S3 a go

1st season was surprisingly good and I've actually read a few of the books off the back of it. Season 2 was more ludicrous and didn't hang together as well. This one seems better than 2 so far!

Watched e1 on the plane on Saturday. I really enjoyed it. Definitely didn’t require any cognitive input on my side so I was able to just switch off and escape. Looking forward to the journey home.

I enjoyed both series 1 and 2, although the ending of series 2 was a bit OTT but I I liked the different characters.  I'm not convinced by series 3, the script isn't great and the acting is weak.  But it is still quite enjoyable in a brainless way.

Got that darker edge back from S1. This seasons love interest may not be who I'd assumed it would be as well.

Enjoyed the latest episode but I don’t remember any of it appearing in the book. I’m just hoping they don’t bring in the other characters any more than they already have with nealy as they are rarely in the books

Watched Ep5 earlier. I've not read the book so I have no idea of what might pass for a plot but the episode felt like a kind of "join the dots" one, connecting last week's backstory to whatever is next in line. Good fun though, very watchable and with a twist in it too.

I'm gonna go on record and say Reacher is slightly better than this 'brain out' entertainment trope.

The sharpness of the humour and the side stories often revel interesting observations about Reacher's character (him speaking to the staff in s3 is a good example - with the french maid.)

It takes time to not make him solely just a killing machine in-between killing and detective work.

There is more humanity/pathos that many series don't bother with.

(If you compared say First Blood - that is totally one dimensional)

I think this quite well written as far as this genre will go.

Latest episode dropped today. Plot implausible, body count ridiculous, a couple of toe curling moments, one of them involving a kiss.

Without giving too much away, the Neagly spin off could be a lot of fun, do not piss her off.

Unless I blinked and missed it, that was the lowest body count of any episode?
