Started on Southland on Netflix, US police procedural. Not too bad, relatively sensible plot lines, better than The Night agent so far, and will probably keep with it.
I watched it a few years back. Pretty solid show, kinda like Hill Street Blues with modern production values.
We watched the first few episodes of Vladimir. Likes it at first, but she quickly became increasingly irritatingly stupid, so we gave up

We've watched a few episodes of Vladimir and I'm quite enjoying it for what it is. Rachel Weisz has been quite outspoken against Botox so that's something.

Yea, we loved it. Music was cool too.
Watched Sinners over the weekend, loved it; the OH was taken aback when she realised it's a horror. The music is excellent, now looking up where to pick up the soundtrack on CD.
Southland was recommended to me a few years back, so now it's on Netflix it's on the list. For now we're watching S2 of Arctic Circle, which is a bit less Finnish dark than the first series, and shorter so more accessible.

Yeah, just discovered this. At last something reasonable on Netflix. Written by Kurt ‘Sons of Anarchy’ Sutter. Bit of a dirty ol Western, seems good. Gillian Anderson stars.
I'm a recent convert to Apple TV.
I do like that they have focussed on quality over quantity.
Pluribus, Severance, For All Mankind, Foundation, Slow Horses, Murderbot, to name but a few.
I'd be cancelling Disney and Netflix if it weren't for others in the house wanting those still.
There are some great shows on Apple TV (particularly if you are a Sci FI fan) but there aren't that many once you are caught up.. I tend to get it for a few months a year, rotating with some.other services.
I absolutely love this RN. Obvs an easy match if you liked Derry Girls, but I'd say it's worth it in all circumstances

I'm down to the last couple of episodes of Young Sherlock (Amazon Prime). It's pretty good, Guy Ritchie signature style.
Loved that, Guy Ritchie does such a good job with the material.

I find Leo Woodall pretty much unwatchable. He's one of those actors who seems to play the same character over and over again, with the exception of The White Lotus season 2. We managed about ten minutes of Vladimir before giving up on it as a bad do...
Meanwhile the latest season of Virgin River is still a fantastic mix of the crashingly mundane, sublimely wooden acting, and spectacularly jarring underworld sub-plots that seem to have accidentally been cut-and-pasted in from a completely different genre of television. I can also recommend Emily in Paris to fans of terrible television.
Tragically however, Doctor Odyssey, which was in a class of its own and memorably featured Don Johnson from Miami Vice as a cruise ship captain - in one episode he romances Shania Twain - was inexplicably cancelled after just one season. It is spectacularly mad. Disney Plus, I think.
We watched the first episode of Malice on Amazon Prime. Jack Whitehall, David Duchovny and Carice van Houten. Immensely stupid but amusing and nice Greek scenery. We may or may not watch episode 2
A night of the seven kingdoms is decent and is a stand alone GOT prequel for anyone like me that doesnt want to commit to 8 series of the original.
Also watched Melania out of curiosity, lasted 10 minutes. Its worse than I anticipated, DON'T

Has anyone mentioned DTF St Louis on Sky? 3 episodes in and we’re quite hooked. Seemed like a straightforward murder case but layers developing at a rapid rate. Interesting characters. MrsJ has sussed it (I think) but she missed her vocation as a detective.

Yep, enjoying that (and enjoyed the previous series too). Absolute nonsense, but manages to walk the line just right so it doesn't tip over into being stupid.
Really enjoying Ripley on Netflix. And Better Call Saul (still, I didn't realise there were six series...)

So our first feature film is released on platforms at the end of March.
It's the culmination of 3 years of work - script through to distribution. (We do have a distribution deal now.)
My small production company produced it with all our resources (kit, money and time.)
We've never done a feature before and we did everything ourselves apart from location sound (which you need to pay good money for or it sounds crap.)
Getting a distribution deal has been the hardest part. It won't be on Netflix as it's just not got any stars and it costs 2K to take it to Netflix through an intermediary.
The film is more of an experiment to see what we could pull off. Sure it's got amateur actors (actually two are pros) so yes it has rough edges but you've got to start somewhere.
My personal role was the cinematography and lighting. I also did the colour grade and some vfx.
We shot on a ronin 4d with anamorphic lenses (adolescence was shot on a 4d.) I've owned my 4d for 4 years now. Great camera.
It's already had a cinema premiere locally.
Anyway it will be out on prime around the end of March.

It's gone to the Guardian for review. Bit nerve wracking - even if it doesn't get published.
The whole idea with this film is to get a spring board to the next with funding and a more genre / commercial driven project with a name behind it.
But equally could just drop on to the bottom shelf at Amazon.
We have had some good news though YouTube have selected it as one they're going to promote themselves. So that's positive.

Watched The Substance. Found it to be mostly style over substance. Oh the ironing... Should have been about 1.5 hours, not the far side of 2. The film had a lot less to say about anything that the reviews I read had suggested. Stylish horror flicks have been around for a while, this is a decent one, but its not exactly deep and meaningful.
Watched the new Peaky Blinders. My advice to you is don't. It was awful, maybe I have changed or maybe times have changed but I found none of the characters appealing , I didn't care about the story the sets and cinematography were dramatic and vivid but ultimately felt like it had all been done better before .

Pretty much agree with that. It's pretty obvious really but what would normally have been stretched out, fleshed out, and built gradually with rising tension over 6 episodes was just knocked out in less than the equivalent of 2.
It felt fairly underwhelming.
And I hate to dig out this old cliche, but bloody speak up, stop bloody whispering.

I watched Marty Supreme and thought it was the best of the Oscar stuff. But then I loved uncut gems.
Oh absolutely loving Paradise S2. Could have been lazy sequel but so much more good stuff going off. Probably my favourite series of the year so far.
Enjoyed Taylor Sheridan's The Madison - completely different to all the killing and shooting of other neo-westerns. It's about grief and doesn't go anywhere and some of the characters grate but it worked for me. With Kurt Russel and Michelle Pfeiffer. Another season has been shot already. Which I think might be better.

I fair enjoyed Silo on Apple TV.
Very atmospheric, great cast, great plot. Only a couple of suspensions of belief needed in season 2 but very much looking forward to season 3 in the summer

Has Deadloch been mentioned? (On Amazon). Just watch series one and two. A bit different from your usual cop show, based in Oz. Do Australians really swear that much?
Yep, Deadloch S2 is on my list - we quite enjoyed S1. Being Aussie helps, there's definitely a humour and bluntness that helps occasionally break the darker aspects of the detective show basics

HBO Max available now through Sky, so tried The Pitt after the rave reviews I've seen. Thought it was ok. Er, yeah, it was ok. Only 1 episode watched though, maybe I'll get into it and see past some of the whoops nursey just walked in on me having a poo rubbish bits.
I'm doing a deep dive, rewatching all four seasons of The Boys prior to the final fifth season kicking off in a couple of weeks. Finished the first season: forgotten just how good it is, and how on point with regard to the shitshow going down in the Land of the Free right now. It'll be very interesting to see how Season Five reflects on the current reality.
I watched Mercy last night (Amazon).
Chris Pratt on trial for murder in a futuristic AI courtroom filmed in not-too-far-off real time. It didn't do well at the cinema but it's not too bad - it's just not the kind of thing I'd pay to watch!
Kind of reminded me of Passengers, only because Chris Pratt is basically the only actor in it for half the film.
You only ever see Rebecca Ferguson on a screen as the AI judge.

Joe Nesbo book adaptation and it has pretty darned good so far. On to episode 3 and loving it. Moody Norwegian detective drama with some amazing performances. Joel Kinnenen (or whatever his name is) is smashing it.
