"Jay Vine slided out at a real fast pace"

It's "slid" Sean, "slid". And "quickly" is a perfectly acceptable word.

Well i think that answered some JV team questions! Glad for the winner, always the bridesmaid not the bride on many stages...

Did it.... maybe Kuss is getting the chance to win the overall and has just thrown them a curve-ball 😀

I meant more in terms of the way they have been bigging up Remco in commentary last few days, but all of a sudden we have not one, but three JV riders that all seem stronger in the mountains..

At least it has made it more interesting, personally i'd love to see Kuss get a run at GC, it must be in the back of his mind if he could do it, looks fresh for someone who has ridden all 3 tours to, and seems like a real nice guy.

Im not sure what bit is 'more interesting' today showed me that it's basically a JV 1/2/3 if they want it... there's simply no-one here who's going to trouble them that i can see

It's looking as though Remco could have suffered an injury or two during his winning stage 'run through', when hitting the Soigneur.

My Velogames team is in dire straits :o)

Lumpy - but overall downhill - start today getting out of the mountains then a completely flat run along the coast for a predicted sprint finish

Kaden Groves again?

Very likely. Wouldn't be surprised to see Ganna have another crack at it as well; the lad's got some engine on him.

I think we might even manage this pace on the tandem, they're very much having a lovely recovery day aren't they

Mind you it doesn't seem to have stopped G falling off and needing attention...

Just tuned in in time to overhear Remco pointing at his team mate saying 'James Knox is a little ****er'.

Ineos Grenadiers having a nightmare atm. Arensman looked in a bad way, sending healing vibes for a quick recovery.

Things I am jealous of with regards Geoffrey Soupe:

  • What. A. Name. Geoff Soupe. Mr Soupe. Incredible
  • Beard.
  • Check out his leg guns

Cyclist Geoffrey Soupe sprinting across the line at La Vuelta a Espania. His bears is resplendent and his thigh muscles are SWOLE

G is racing for the Ineos Grenadiers as the nominal team lead, but I have my eye on Thymen Arensman.

None of that is working out for you really is it @nbt ?!

Been a while since Ineos had this bad of a Grand Tour to be fair. I feel sure that G will battle on through for a mid place finish but it'll be nowhere close to what they were expecting. 🙁

Another mountain day tomorrow - not a summit finish though.

We have Eurosport as part of our TV package.  The Vuelta show is known here as the "what on earth will she be wearing today?" show.

Well this isn't very pretty but the first link gets you there. He's proper banged up and missing a tooth, was concussed but seems ok apart from that.

If anyone knows any team principals , I'm willing to choose riders from another team in next year's velogames for very reasonable fees like a new garmin or an old bike in my size...,

Not a big fan of the sexist tone this thread is taking. Can we knock it on the head please?

Anyway, back on topic. Jumbo seem to be going about grinding Remco down bit by bit. He's weathering it remarkably well but we're not even at the first rest day yet. It'll be interesting to see how ho copes with the onslaught.

He looked a lot better today than the past few. But it was a pretty short climb today, I think he suffers on the longer ones.

No idea why, but I'm warming to Remco. Could be an "anyone but Jumbo-Visma" thing.

When are Ineos going to realise they need to start riding for stages rather than protecting GT for GC?

At 8'43" down, one would hope that they won't wait too long, but then he's not looked great so maybe after the rest day

Chuffed to see Sepp in red. Fantastic

I thought Jumbo had given Kuss a tilt at red specifically to counter AbJV syndrome! Genuinely delighted to see him in red.

But yeah, I also sort of like Remco for just seeming a bit human, attitude and all.

I think I'm warming to Remco in the same way I warmed to Pog. He's become a bit of an underdog (kind of) and seems to be a pretty authentic guy.

I feel like I have to defend Jumbo a bit as well though. It's easy to think of them as the new Sky, but they're far more tactically interesting than sky were. Some of the best grand tour stages of recent years have been the result of some pretty audacious moves by JV.

Jay Vine has withdrawn after a crash

Saw his post on Twitter, sounded nasty!

He shared a pic of himself at the roadside with his bike, the tubeless rear tyre is off the rim and front also I think. In the era of discs that can't be a heat thing so what happened? Bit alarming 😬

So it looks like Remco didn’t know he was sprinting for the stage win. That explains the annoyance after the stage finish I think.

Are we up to speed on the results from today?

I'm impressed with how Kuss went today - I guess we haven't really seen him go full gas in a TT before, but only losing 1:15 to Evenepoel (and 90sec on Ganna) on a course like that is impressive. It certainly shunts him more into credible GC contender territory.

Watching today I came up with a theory about how Ganna and Evenepoel differ in their TT success. Ganna uses so many watts that he scares the air molecules away, creating a low friction vortex in front of him. Evenepoel jsut gets so small on the bike the air molecules don't notice as he passes by.

zero chance, kuss a minute up, roglic within 30 seconds of remco, and vingegaard only another minute back, isolated remco is about to get "granoned"

It's ridiculous how strong Jumbo-Visma are as a team...

1st, 4th and 7th on GC at the Vuelta while at the same time dominating everything at Tour of Britain!

Flat stage tomorrow, only 150km as well.

i think Jonas looks tired, he hasn't chased much or put in any big efforts, unlike Kuss and Roglic? I think Roglic is looking good, and it'll one of them, but the next few stages will definitely ones to watch, maybe Jonas has been sitting back and waiting for the big mountains and riding into it...

Just like the TDF then 🙂

But you could be right, today is the day to see

(edit) plus this is very similar to the 2022 tour 'handhsake' stage with the exception of the final, so ving will know whats coming

Yes, even with the angliru to come it's which Jumbo wins.

Kuss looked comfortable closing 20-30 seconds on Vingo at the end. Ride all 3 grand tours, win the last. That been done before?

Another summit finish tomorrow, then a hilly day on Sunday before a rest day on Monday.

Ineos' challenge was over almost before it began with De Plus crashing out and then took a further dive when Arensman withdrew as well. Evenepoel is dead and buried.
There's a small fleet of Spaniards in 4th - 7th who might be able to fight it out amongst themselves for a 3rd place if the stars align.

Kuss for the overall. All three Grand Tours won by three different riders in the same team? It’s a team sport and a long season. Imagine having two GC current winners riding for you to complete the set. They owe him and they know they owe him. Kuss is a nice guy too.

I have a feeling that they will ride for Kuss. He proved on the Tourmalet that he is strong as a GC leader by marking moves and then making the last decisive attack. If it wasn't for the fan he may have caught Vingegaard.

I think that Jonas attacked yesterday for the stage too, rather than GC gains to get red, remember that Sepp and Promos. Have already won a stage each so this was an ideal opportunity to get one for Jonas.

It's clear that Sepp Kuss is liked in Jumbo Visma and I hope he is repaid for his work. I heard someone on GCN say that for the 7 grand tours that Jumbo Visma have won, only Sepp Kuss has been ever present

My take is that today is kind of a humiliation for Evenepoel - he is so irrelevant that JV just let him ride off.

Irrelevant to the GC yes - wasn't he 27 minutes down?

Same as they let Geraint Thomas ride off once he was out of the GC running.

during the stage yesterday I'd assumed he abandoned, they had a graphic after he was dropped saying Gr. Evenepoel with a timer, then it disappeared, and I wasn't paying much attention, they Quickstep posted on twitter that he'd finished the stage 27 minutes down, again I didn't pay much attention, thought maybe he just did a Cav and finished and was out of the time limit, was shocked to see him start today, and then ride on the front from like 100km out

what was yesterday? mental? physical? it's quite the bounce back, and yes he was allowed in the break because he's now so far back, and he's better than everyone in the break, but he still dropped and put over a minute into Bardet up the last 4km of the Puerto de Belagua

Sean Kelly or Adam Blythe were suggesting that once he'd realised GC was gone yesterday he sat up to save legs for Stage hunting today or in future.

Sounds like quite a call to make whilst out on the road but makes some sort of sense. Did he perhaps expect to be defending red after the TT rather than having to chase a mountain specialist in the mountains?

Fair play to Remco. It takes a lot of strength of character to suffer a setback like he did yesterday then come back out fighting the next day. I've really warmed to him over the course of this race.

+1

Hadn't really seen that much of him TBH (don't tend to watch one day racing much) and had just assumed he was another one of the current crop of amazingly good but 'cold' young riders. He comes across as more 'human' than most of those though.

Might just be a Belgian thing though? He's similar to WVA in that he's capable of stunning things on a bike and clearly has an immense desire to just race and try to win, but at the same time has a relatable fragility and humanity to him too. I don't get that from Vingegaard or Pog for example.

Hopefully JV will let him go again and he'll get another stage or two and the polka dot jersey come next weekend...

Pog has actually been very human, when he does blow up he’s normally the first to seek out the winner and congratulate them.

I’m not Pog’s biggest fan, but he does come across as a nice bloke.

True, but I just can't warm to him in the same way for whatever reason. Maybe my reaction to the apparent 'inevitability' of him destroying everyone else and that (when he doesn't have a rare bad day) it just doesn't look that difficult for him. Remco seems like he's pushing his limits a bit more often?

Yeah it's weird, but I just cannot stand Sepp Just and have no idea why, grinning ****. Well I guess it's a Jumbo thing. Quite like Roglic though, cannot stand Vingagoagoago.

I like Remco, he does seem like a straight forward type of person.

Me too and it's entirely irrational. Remco was one of my bad guys but now he's swanning about being all relatable and likable so he's ruined that. Maybe he should go back on the list for highlighting the stupidity of my goodie/baddie list.

Anyway, loved today's stage. Love it when someone who isn't the strongest is in a good position to win but they basically have to be a total arsehole to do it.

Anyone else a bit suspicious of Evenepoals sudden resurgence yesterday?

The last time I saw a rider recover so miraculously it turned out to be due to some foal play.
