As per most things Trump. It appears that he's over promised and wildly underdelivered

now even ‘undelivering’ - journalists are comparing what they downloaded when the DOJ partially released the files with what is there now and can material has started disappearing

it’s hard to tell what’s incompetence and what’s calculated. Their behaviour seems like perfect fuel for conspiracy theorists- the sort of people who usually sit firmly in their own camp. Are these blunders or somehow calculated to excite those people somehow, even though they paint themselves as the conspirators

Followed one of the links through, and it quite clearly mentions Trump and underage girls and particular things he liked to 'do'.  How can they get this man out of office and in prison ?

You can't, he's purged the US legal system of non-partisan and democratic leaning personel.

If you view his presidency through the lense of him only wanting to make money and keep himself out of jail, you have to hand it to him, he's done a superb job.

The mid-term results should make for interesting reading, if they are allowed to take place.

So this has blown up again, possibly to deflect from the non-release of the Epstein files

BBC News - New Trump envoy says he will serve to make Greenland part of US

I thought the 'president of peace' was too busy throwing Europe under the bus, starting a war with venezuala, selling his own people out to Russia, and proping up the Israeli dictatorship, but I guess Greenland has oil?

He's got a busy schedule apparently. 🤔

If you look at the deals his family and friends are making behind the scenes with regimes who are doing nicely out of his policies,it’s eye watering sums of money.

The suggestion I read (in the Times, IIRC) is that the whole attitude to Putin is that he wants in to the whole Russian oil and gas market. He’s so stupid he doesn’t realise that his chances of breaking into that closed shop is about the same as the chances of me becoming the next pope.

It’s a lot different to getting the Saudis to agree to some Trump golf courses and hotels. This lot have killed everyone else who tried it

Isn't Greenland technically Danish, and so by extension part of the EU?

The USA is basically threatening war against Europe with that kind of language.

Mind you, the USA has threatened Canada too.

Thier list of allies grows thinner the longer the USA is a puppet state of Russia.

Must admit my surprise over the whole Trump class battleship ,just seems to point further to an old man that’s gone totally loopy in charge of the U.S military machine.

https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c2084nq2npjo

I don’t think these are distractions from the Epstein files, just the madness the US are allowing themselves to be dragged into to keep an old man happy.

The renderings of the new battleships look like they've been done by a 12 yo.

I know it's an extreme version of our own politics but there needs to be checks and balances to those in power surely.

US shipyards can't currently keep up with demand for attack submarines, hence outsourcing some work to Rosyth. How are they going to fit in a new fleet of battleships in a short timescale?

There's a non zero chance. The US Navy's smaller warships are aging rapidly and all the previous attempts to make new ones have ended in disaster. If they don't step it up they'll having not enough escort ships to deploy the aircraft carriers. China is also building warships at a bonkers fast rate. So, the US will have to figure out how to start building warships again really soon.

The display on the easel looks like a box to me. It seems to be missing some wording, "Revell 1:72"

"operational in two-and-a-half years", they'll still be drawing it!

It's got a railgun as well, something that was shelved as impractical in the US in 2021,

“The system works. It stopped because it wasn’t, you know, fieldable in an operational environment." Mike Rucker, Head of General Atomics-EMS Weapons

A similar vessel, the Constellatio-class frigate - which Trump approved during his first term in office - was cancelled in 2024 after repeated delays and cost overruns.

Only two ships were reportedly expected to be delivered after approximately $2bn (£1.49bn) was spent on the project.

So fat chance, but cancellation will only come after the biggest largest expensive and most respected overspend in the world.

Greenland was part of the EU but voted to leave it.  It is a possession of the Danish crown, as is Denmark proper (and the Faroe Islands, which did not vote to become part of the EU when Denmark and Greenland joined in 1973 along with Ireland and the UK).

Trump is truly unhinged.

The latest headlines are undoubtedly for the purpose of distracting from his hiding of the Epstein files. But by saving himself, he is doing the USA generational damage. The USA, aside from being viewed as an unreliable partner, is also now an international laughing stock. Trump manages to make himself and the USA look worse practically every day - its amazing how a person so dumb can get to the position he is in even with his billionaire backers.

What amazes me more though is how he has been able to fleece and do catastrophic damage to the USA week after week and nobody stopping him. I hope to see Trump, his family, and all his sycophants in prison and all their money confiscated.

Just about the only good thing about these Trump Greenland statements and attempts to meddle in its future is the closer ties with Europe, including EU membership, that will probably follow later down the line. Those countries trying to have their cake and eat as regards floating between the EU and the USA will see their options quite differently after a few more years of Trump.

Carry me to a sand dune/grassy knoll overlooking the green on the 4th hole “woe-be-tide” on the Ailsa course at his Turnberry course (just 50mile up the road from my house) and leave me with the necessary means to make a suitable impact,  I’m ****ed and rapidly on my way out with SPMS so may as well go out with a bang rather than a whimper/selfish hit of diamorphine

The most important building block of US society isn't freedom or liberty in their true sense, especially as that's vastly exaggerated through daily indoctrination and an epic case of deluded exceptionalism, it's greed, and the more money you have the more freedom and liberty you have to be greedy. It's basically the real American dream, get rich and **** everyone else (this is the issue with free at the point of use healthcare).

With that fundamental principle of a society, anyone selling the dream "they" personally will be better off, no matter the harm it causes, will do well.

It's also the direction we're going in.

Me too.

It's difficult to see which way the UK goes: does it roll over and fall in with USA or rebuild bridges with EU and try to have some autonomy.

My grandparents and parents have been very fortunate which positioned myself accordingly. A Farage, or even a Starmers Labour cowing down to the USA, government will only see less social mobility and greater wealth inequality. The future doesn't look a good place.

A survey many years ago asked the Voters why a tax cut for rich people was a good thing(it may have been a vote on an extra tax for the rich). There was a large majority for the tax cuts, when the electorate was 80% poor. The survey found that the poor people voted for the tax cuts didnt want to be taxed more when they became rich - a large proportion of them expected to be rich in the future, even though it was very unlikely that they would ever get an income that even approached average, never mind being in the tax band where the new taxes would hit. They were living the dream, with little reality in their thoughts.

It's something very particular about the American Dream - they see themselves as classless - unbound by class structure. I think we're more aware of barriers to mobility here than they are there. As they see it anyone can be a star, can be a celebrity, can be a millionaire, can be president. As a result often the poor can often see themselves as waiting to be rich. Its very different to our own tradition where people who've been propelled to success often hang on to trappings of their working class roots.

Trump's showy wealthy personae seems to be one that appeals particularly to the poor - because he obviously doesn't do the work - he doesn't earn his wealth it just seems to happen to him. Quite often of course his wealth isn't real. He makes it look like wealth is something that just happens to you, like winning the lottery.

I remember a discussion about Trump's first campaign for the Whitehouse, at a point where nobody really thought he could win - not least because people believed the working class vote he was seeking would surely see through him. An American commentator at the time said what a lot of people don't recognise is that the poor in the US don't see themselves a poor,  see themselves as temporarily inconvenienced millionaires.

its going to be a sore one for them - a venue would be have insurance against forced cancellations - things like a performer being ill or injured, severe weather etc. An insurer isn't going to pay out to a venue because the venue has become repellent to the act it has booked. Suing the performer just make it worse, because going forward acts just won't risk accepting the bookings in the first place. You can't sell tickets to watch an empty stage and theres only going to be so many nights a week Kid Rock can play.

its pretty obvious that Dementia Don isn't on the details of these policies and that his inner circle, people like miller, vance, rubio even   wiles (mostly miller id guess)

https://www.vanityfair.com/news/story/trump-susie-wiles-interview-exclusive-part-1

are driving these purges, as his cognitive decline accelerates (i wonder if 26 might throw up some surprises in that respect)  Those around him will only be able to push through ever more fascist policies.

the only hope is that in the event of his death that they would all be so paralysed by internal power struggles that theyd neuter themselves

I hope European leaders see this for what it is, Trump's Ukraine, another foreign war to cement his domestic power, but I doubt they will remove their lips from his arse and grow a backbone any time soon.
