Looks like he is closing down the Coronavirus task force he set up, just as their deaths and infections are really ramping up.
Looks like it will be left to some pre-existing federal agencies who will advise the states what to do? So no federal actions?
Makes sense from his point of view - he can say all the deaths aren't anything to do with him as he's not working on the issue. Blame goes to the states.

Think he might be a bit naive to think he can distance himself from this, just saying it's nothing to do with me isn't going to work. His crazy supporters will swallow it up but plenty of people are going to see the deaths and the government doing nothing and turn against him.

I see Trump is playing his standard "Who? Never met the guy? But I hear bad things" card for Dr Rick Bright, who had until April led the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA) and made a whistleblower complaint that Trump and the Whitehouse ignored the warnings about Covid.

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/donald-trump-latest-coronavirus-whistleblower-rick-bright-a9502841.html

Meanwhile I'm also seeing a big increase in smearing of Dr Fauci online from right-wingers, who are claiming he is dishonest and just in it for the money etc.

This ignorant, uneducated one eyed view - read the interview with the US lady - is exactly why the orange idiot will be re-elected:

https://news.sky.com/story/coronavirus-why-rush-to-ease-lockdown-could-be-catastrophic-for-us-and-trump-11984256

Oh how we joked about the generic and grandiose self important US view of mostly knowing sod all about the little islands outside of America before COVID19, but that same attitude is hitting the world hard now.

That Sky interview reveals what his base will think, when the economy reopens (notice nowadays nobody talks about a society, we are all economies) he will be seen as a saviour because he has been pushing for it.

Saving lives is much less important than the dollar.

I'm all out of words to describe this oxygen thief.

How long have they been in power and he still blame Obmama for 'the cupboards being empty'?

He just makes one thing up after another. We are making millions of masks and soon our stocks will be so high we will be saving other countries by sending some to them. I wonder if they have VOTE TRUMP printed on them?

When that nurse said "Its OK, we've all tested negative, we wouldn't want to give anything to our President" am I the only one who hoped she had her fingers firmly crossed?

Good example of the smear and conspiracy tactics now being used by the right against Dr Fauci for daring to contradict Trump:

https://vm.tiktok.com/ctTw6Y/

Meanwhile Trump prevented Fauci from testifying to the House of Representatives because “The house is a setup. The House is a bunch of Trump haters. They put every Trump hater on the committee”.

So yay for scrutiny I guess 🤷‍♂️

Intrigued by the notion that a virus can be ‘taught’ 🙂 I mean you can train dolphins right?

but I guess the first step of creating a conspiracy theory is to create a filter through which only the credulous can pass.

“One of Trump's personal valets tests positive for coronavirus - report

One of Trump’s personal valets has tested positive for coronavirus, according to a report from CNN.

A spokesperson for the president confirmed in a statement that a member of the US military who works at the White House had received a positive test result. According to CNN, the valet is a member of the US Navy.

“We were recently notified by the White House Medical Unit that a member of the United States Military, who works on the White House campus, has tested positive for Coronavirus,” deputy White House press secretary Hogan Gidley said in the statement.

“The President and the Vice President have since tested negative for the virus and they remain in great health.”

According to CNN, the valet started exhibiting symptoms Wednesday morning, and the president was subsequently tested again once the valet’s result came back positive.“

Trump won't be worried, remember that official doctors report that said he was the fittest president there'd ever been?

Either that, or my President Pence prediction will come true sooner than expected.

The last Kayleigh McEnany press briefing was a shocker. She completely dismissed testing the population. Nobody working on contact trace and test over there then?

'Q Kayleigh, we were just talking about masks. You said, at Honeywell, that the President was told by the folks at Honeywell, as was the team, that they didn’t need to wear masks. The reason he was told that was the people who would be interacting with him had all been tested and had been shown to be negative before that took place, I guess. So the President had those circumstances. Obviously, he’s the President. But why shouldn’t all Americans who go back to work be able to get a test before they do to feel comfortable in their own work environment to be interacting with other individuals?

MS. MCENANY: Yeah, well, let’s dismiss a myth about tests right now. If we tested every single American in this country at this moment, we’d have to retest them an hour later, and then an hour later after that. Because at any moment, you could theoretically contract this virus. So the notion that everyone needs to be tested is just simply nonsensical.'

And her parting shot was this...

'Q Kayleigh, in a previous life, before you were Press Secretary, you worked for the campaign. And you made a comment, I believe, on Fox, in which you said, “President Trump will not allow the coronavirus to come to this country.” Given what has happened since then, obviously, would you like to take that back?

MS. MCENANY: Well, first, let me note I was asked a question on Fox Business about the President’s travel restrictions. I noted what was the intent behind those travel restrictions, which is: We will not see the coronavirus come here. We will not see terrorism come here — referring to an earlier set of travel restrictions.

I guess I would turn the question back on the media, and ask similar questions: Does Vox want to take back that they proclaimed that the coronavirus would not be a deadly pandemic? Does the Washington Post want to take back that they told Americans to “Get a Grippe,” the flu is bigger than the coronavirus? Does the Washington Post, likewise, want to take back that our brains are causing us to exaggerate the threat of the coronavirus? Does the New York Times want to take back that fear of the virus maybe spre- — spreading faster than the virus itself? Does NPR want to take back that the flu was a much bigger threat than the coronavirus? And finally, once again, the Washington Post — would they like to take back that the government should not respond aggressively to the coronavirus?

I’ll leave you with those questions and maybe you’ll have some answers in a few days.'

She's happily ignoring the fact that the media in question were just reporting stupid things that the administration was saying every night.

Besides, just coz other people got things wrong, it doesn't make her any less wrong.

Nasty Piece of work.

And that is where the democrats and their supporters are ****ing up, they are so obsessed with being anti Trump and the current administration, they are forgetting to listen to the reasons so many people were willing to risk voting for Trump. They are failing to offer any real alternative, just back to the old ways.

33 million unemployed over the past couple of months, losing their job based health care, through no fault of their owm. And the democrats leadership instead of making sure they have healthcare when they most need it, are urging Trump to open the insurance companies so they can be sold healthcare FFS.

I’ll go on record now saying that I like to think of myself as a fairly decent and caring human being. I don’t wish ill on anyone, yet I hope the odious waste of oxygen catches the virus and dies of it. He’s a vile waste of space and his childish, pathetic attitude has contributed towards the needless deaths of thousands of people.

Trump got in by promising people who thought they had been left behind that he would bring back the good times. Last year I cycled from Maine to Key West, went through so many small towns that had just shut down, old people living in huge houses. Kids had moved to the nearest city for work, leaving not much left. Spoke to loads of people and the subject of Trump would come up, not one person liked him but they were Republicans and supported the GoP.

Of course he hasn’t brought the good times back, it depends on whether they have woken up to him.

But the problem is, his opposition also haven't woken up to the reality of those peoples lives, until they can offer something different to the politics of indifference that has dragged down those towns, then they could still gamble on Trump. It's collective self harm, a cry for help, but no one is listening so they will do it again.

That sounds good on paper/screen but i fear the usa has gone past the point of no return for a vast swathe of the underclass that is due to unfettered rampant capitalism and a fear of socialism/welfare state/healthcare for all

This is what the US is about now, armed black individuals escorting their state representative to her office after armed white right-wingers staged a protest inside the building.

Yes, this is what America has become. I thought it was an important moment. The RW militias have been strutting around like the KKK since Trumps been in office and the perception is that they have the tacit support of the police. Remember these groups turning up to the Ferguson protests? The militias seem to see themselves as a twisted American version of a PCSO.

It reminds me of Condoleezza Rice saying she opposed gun control as she remembered her father and other neighbours standing on the porch with their shotguns at the ready as the good ole boys rolled by in their pickups looking to do some lynching.

It always confuses me how so many people can be so vehemently against something that would benefit them. Sensible gun laws, nope, health system so people don't die purely because they're poor, nope. The rich I almost understand as often they just want to protect their wealth and don't need to worry about medical costs and shootings in public schools, but the vast swathes of poor people who would benefit from such things....don't get it.

Have you aver listened/watched to American news, it is just pure propaganda, they are brainwashed from an early age that Anerica is the greatest country on earth, and everyone else is just jealous of them. How so many are taken in by such an obvious lie is incredible.

But we are the same, the message is not quite the same, but we are also brainwashed into a way of life. Just look how many people say things like British police are the best in the world or the bbc is without parallel etc Both fairly common statements on this forum and both completely nonsense nationalistic statements.

Like the Americans we have been brainwashed that low wage inflation, high housing inflation, individuality rather than sticking together are good ideas, and that poverty is the fault of the poor and all they need to do is just buck their ideas up to be rich.

We should be looking at America as an example and thinking, **** if they can be conned so easily, whats the con that is being played on us. But national arrogance wont allow us to think like that because we must be superior.

What happens if the 2 armed grpups have a face off?

That could be the moment America finally faces up to the need for some gun contol measures. End to open carry laws? Ban on assault rifles?

What happens if you continue to see a rise in White supremacists wandering the streets armed to the teeth in the belief that they have theire presidents approval.? Should black and hispanic people just cower away?

The state police allowed a bunch of terrorists to wander into the State house to intimidate Democrat lawmakers. That was bound to be a watershed moment.

Did no one ask all those protesters why they felt the need to bring guns and dress like call of duty avatars to a protest about easing of lockdown measures? The whole thing had nothing to do with guns. "Because it's my right" isn't really a good enough answer. They're also living in a country where, despite the frequency of mass shootings, they are pretty unlikely to end up in an armed confrontation..... Unless every other kn0bhead there has a gun! 🙄

OK so this is kinda interesting. Because one of the problems in Michigan is that the anti-lockdown people are also convinced that it's connected to an attempt to bring in gun control. It isn't- Michigan <is> trying to introduce more restrictions but it's from before the lockdown.

Maybe something to do with Trump's 3 Liberate tweets- "LIBERATE MINNESOTA!" "LIBERATE MICHIGAN!" "LIBERATE VIRGINIA! and save your great 2nd Amendment. It is under siege!" and other comments about putting governor's under siege, who knows eh?

So seeing armed people on the other side will be a shock for the people for whom it's all about the second amendment.

Never in a million years.

It’s the most backwards first world country there is and the stances on guns and healthcare are mind boggling to me. I have a few friends over there, mainly customers from work who I’ve become friendly with, and most of them agree and also find the health care and gun situations mad. Just seems they are vastly outnumbered unfortunately

So what are they allowed to do in the state house before police get involved? Could they point the guns at people? Shout intimidating (if not directly threatening them) stuff at them whilst pointing a gun at folk?

I don’t want to know what would happen in the aftermath of it kicking off, with lives lost. I’d hope that it would actually shock them into the start of gun control. But I’m not sure I could listen to people saying it was necessary to keep the status quo. Don’t like a policy? Take your tooled up mates to the town hall till they change their mind. Madness.

also find the health care and gun situations mad.

The healthcare thing is just a tragedy of history really. Its not an issue of health provision as much as insurance and who provides that. Health insurance has always been administered by employers for some reason - that means its not your doctor but your employer's HR department thats ultimately in charge of your health. Its not a system of heath administration the US would choose if it built and insurance-based health care system from scratch tomorrow - it just the one they're stuck with.

The reason the US clings to that system is its because it has become part of the system good-doggy perks you get as an employee - health care packages are performance-related in the same way as having a parking space with your name on it or a comfier chair.

Margeret from accounts with the wooden leg needs a reserved parking space more than you - but you earned it.

Your secretary is sat at her desk all day but you deserve a better chair than her because you got that promotion.

The guys in the warehouse do a more physically demanding job than you and its more important to their working welfare that they have access to better medical care - but whats much more important is that you are made to feel more important to the company than them.

And thats why Americans recoil in horror at the idea of universal healthcare - its not giving them something for free, its taking away something they've earned.

That’s just really sad and rather pathetic though isn’t it. Turning health in to a competition and people accepting/actively not trying to break that is, well, sad and rather pathetic.

That’s the way it’s always been is one of the shitiest excuses for anything. The supposed best country in the world shouldn’t have an issue with redefining something as important as health care. The fact they do proves what a backwards place it really is.

This made me lol at his meeting with the Republican Members of Congress this week. wrt. their response to Coronavirus. Not everybody would want to admit it.

'And I spoke with Angela Merkel today. I spoke with Prime Minister Abe of Japan. I spoke with many of the leaders over the last four or five days. And so many of them, almost all of them — I would say all of them; not everybody would want to admit it — but they all view us as the world leader, and they’re following us.'

Being reported over there that those Abbott rapid tests (gives a result in 15 mins) they use in the White House to ensure anybody near Trump is negative have at least a 15% false-negative failure rate. Results from another check say 25%.

Let's hope not. Trump having covid, but asymptomatically, would be the cruellest twist of fate.

The ‘Typhoid Mary’ of our age! It’s the wish of my heart that Angry Tinkerbell gets a really bad dose and suffers for it. Maybe he might learn something important about it, like hubris. Somehow I doubt it.

The reason the US clings to that system is its because it has become part of the system good-doggy perks you get as an employee

I would say it's more to do with the lobbying and behind-the-scenes power of the healthcare industry + Americans seem to be brainwashed from an early age that any socialist policies = communism and a slippery slope to all their 'freedoms' being taken away.

The whole co-pay part of the US healthcare just blows my mind, even with decent insurance you can still end up paying a fair chunk out of your own pocket.

I think what he needs is a good dose of humility. He has hubris by the bucketful already, sadly without the mythological downfall as yet. And yes, it's the most beautiful hubris, obviously.

Bit late for that. Any capacity for humility has been extinguished by a life which has rewarded him from birth for his narcissistic sociopathy.

A bit more about the conference, where he’s pushing ‘Obamagate’, a conspiracy that doesn’t actually exist, except in the minds of deranged right-wingers, QAnon, and Angry Tinkerbell; you have to read down the boingboing comments to actually get some clarity.
One comment was interesting, AT (Angry Tinkerbell) seems to be using Stalin’s playbook, in a roundabout way, with regard to his seeming dismissal of the rising death toll in the US - “one death is a tragedy, a million deaths are a statistic”.

He has actually tweeted the last minute of the press conference as if it is something to be proud of!

Amazing, isn't it. His issue was Weijia Jiang (CBS, born in China) asked a 'nasty' question that dared to mention people losing their lives, and why was he treating this as a global competition.

Much of his briefing was spent comparing the number of tests per capita carried out in the US with South Korea (a country that successfully deployed rapid testing and contained the virus, so by definition won't be doing as many tests now).

He then got upset when Jiang didn't move away from the mic and was upset I assume that Kaitlan Collins (CNN) didn't barge her out of the way. These are the two correspondents Trump has previously said he has issues with.

Plus replying 'ask China' to Jiang was unfortunate at best.

Do think though that rather than 'pushing his buttons' (which prob makes good TV for their news networks) more factual questions to the guy who's heading up the testing would be better.

Dear God! Have you seen his twitter account? Its the ramblings of a madman!

He must just literally sit online all day monitoring mentions of himself on Twitter and visiting conspiracy theory websites about Obama

No wonder he's handling this so badly. He's clearly not got the time in his day to do owt else?

The man is an absolute lunatic

I don't think Weijia Jiang was pushing buttons, I thought it was a legitimate question she asked. He's always going on about how he's doing more of this and that compared to other countries. I also thought it was racist to say to Weijia Jiang "go ask China"

To walk away in a huff and then to twitter you were ganged upon hardly shows you're the leader of a great nation to the rest of the world. China and North Korea must piss themselves laughing at his news conferences.

The whole ‘plandemic’ thing is really starting to get out of hand now, difficult to see how such things can be controlled, because removing the threads and banning just fuels the “ ‘they’re’ banning this, it must be true, there must be something ’they’ don’t want us to see!” rhetoric.

Frankly, it’s becoming increasingly clear that AT is completely irrational and delusional, and there may be real, underlying issues like dementia at work.
Sad.

If he'd made the same comment to a black or Hispanic journalist, it wouldn't have been racist. I don't think we should be focusing on that comment to be the problem.

I'd love to have seen the media slow clap him off the stage after that little flounce.

I don't think he would have - she's the journo that a White House staffer said "kung flu" to last month, shortly after which Drumpf proclaimed that saying it is not racist - she gets a ton of stick for not naming the staffer. I thought it was an odd thing for him to say, and odd that she reacted - now it makes more sense to me, with that little excitement last month.

He didn't, though.

Agree it doesn't really register on the Trump scale of thunder****edness though
