Tiverton by-election will be the real test of whether Johnson’s BS is sticking.

Tommorrow isn't it for the by-elections?
Any idea when results from that and Wakefield will be announced?

There’s a decent chance the tories will hold both Tiverton and Wakefield.

I thought the Tories were miles behind in Wakefield? Tiverton 50/50 I guess.

Doubt they would be doing a desperate rush so some point Friday morning unless its a really tight race and some recounting is needed.

I did like that someone paid 120k for a dinner with Johnson, May and Cameron. Seems to be more a winner for most awkward set of dinner party guests than something to actually pay for.

It's the set up for a sequel to Murder on the Orient Express

I thought the Tories were miles behind in Wakefield?

“I can categorically say we are not 20 points ahead and we are fighting for every vote. The fact we have only won one byelection [rather than successfully defended a seat] in 25 years shows the scale of the task. It is not a foregone conclusion that we win,” said Louise Haigh, the shadow transport secretary, who is running Labour’s campaign.

Expectation management from Labour?
10pts would be more believable, but it could well still be much closer, polling from the red wall for Tories is bad ATM, so assumption is they won't win Wakefield.
Rwanda & ECHR policies will appeal to a certain demographic tho.

Tiverton is more critical for Tories it's been Tory for 30 years and they won by 20,000 votes last time

Wakefield as a recent Tory acquisition, they are less likely to be worried about (tho like many red wall seats it's been slowly switching from red to blue since the 80s)

Not convinced about Tiverton. Way took many people subscribe to the "he's doing his best" attitude and they're the ones that vote.

Oh, he is doing his best!
Unfortunately, his best is way below par for the bits that are needed and far too good for the bits that involve corruption, lying, prevarication and apportioning blame.

I do find it an odd defence especially since tory supporters are often fond of going on about meritocracy and "prizes for taking part" and so on.

I could do my best racing at the downhill championships but the team employing me would still be in last place and should be looking for a replacement asap.

Possibly but we’re not allowed to discuss that here. 🙂

Maybe, just maybe, there have been enough recent scandals to get the youngsters out in force and vote anti-Boris.

If you allow people to believe you're 20 points ahead, your vote will potentially not turn out. Of course, it might mean the other side's vote also goes down the pub, but complacency is risky.

Are the power stations coming before or after all the new hospitals?

Listening to several different pieces about the economy today on the radio and not once was Brexit mentioned.

I'd forgotten about this one

He was also lobbying for a Russian banker!

Another SW by-election coming?

They are going to be combined into the same buildings.

If he chooses not to resign then unless he is found guilty of something fairly serious resulting in jailtime then I dont think a lot can be done.

Hugh fearnley-whittingstall has tactically voted lib Dem so based on my analysis they will win the posh one.

Well so not to upset a couple of people how about a compromise - talk about them but just don't mention the leader of the Labour Party's name?

Sort of conventional (and legal) that there is no party political election coverage during polling days.

So probably best to take a hint from the main stream media and hold off any comments on election performance until the polls close this evening.

Wakey is a Labour shoe-in given what's happened recently

Tiverton is a close call but with an aging population and a pension increase/bribe imminent, the Tories might just hold on

I hadn't paid much attention until this morning but now I have ;looked I'm really surprised by the number of candidates in the Tiverton by -8!

I couldn't give a monkeys about UKIP splitting the vote but what are Labour/LD/Greens doing?

Theres a kind of unofficial agreement between labour and the lib dems where they're fielding candidates for appearances, but labour aren't actively campaigning in Tiverton and the Lib Dems aren't in Wakefield

Don't know about the Greens.

Well in the SW Moggy could be losing his seat
Results in Tiverton might give some indication how likely that really is

First I've heard of that "Conservative celtic fringe". Looking at the map, not very fringe-ey, or celtic.

Bless my soul! I never knew old Moggy was from just south of Brizzle! Shows what I know, I always thought he was a silver-spoon-up-the-arse from Eton way, just how wrong can a man be.

It seems to be a recent invention and a bit of a stretch. I think the media wanted something similar to the old red wall and that was their best name

I think just calling it the SW is more informative!

Whats depressing is that thanks to fptp, despite getting ~40% of the vote there, they get ~80% of the seats!

The polls haven't closed yet, what is there to report on the front page? Not even the turnout is known yet.

It could be a deep state conspiracy bollocks

Or

They could be following the ofcom code that prohibits them reporting on it while voting is ongoing. E.g. so you can't report something to manipulate the behavior of people yet to vote.

It's there if you search.

But why not on the front page?

But why not on the front page?

Because the people who look at the website aren't searching for it and driving it up the priority list

Have you actually read your link :

"The weather has been warm and sunny in Wakefield, while there has been sunshine and showers in Honiton and Tiverton."

Is that really front page material?

It does seem more subdued reporting than normal. No hanging around polling stations taking pictures of dogs and so on.
Rather than conspiracy though I suspect its more plenty of stuff going on and the cost of popping down to either constituency is rather high especially without trains.
