I’m pretty sure there was a waterproof short thread recently, but I can only find ones from 10 years ago on the search and I’m sure things would have moved on from then! Anyone kind enough to point me in the right direction?

Thanks!

Thanks, already seen them. From memory I think they’re well reviewed.

I remember the thread and following the comments I ordered Madison DTE shorts, they seem really good so far and were down to £51 on Amazon.

Waterproof shorts thread – where is it?

If it's anything like waterproof shorts it was working fine, doing it's job for a reasonable price, so the manufacturer stopped production in favour of a more expensive pair that don't work so well and have too many pockets. Currently only available in XXL or S.

Not in to cut offs like an 80’ child.

Word numb (good name) hahaha too true.

Patagonian were they the soft shell or normal ones?

Im a 32 waist and ordered large Madison DTE's as per the size guide. Fit is fine on the tightest adjustment and I reckon 34/35 would be the upper limit.
They are the normal ones - I wanted something I could wear all year.

Why cut the legs off the army surplus trousers? Stops you getting muddy legs and water running down into your socks and shoes.

Just got the Madison DTE's for £41.50 in green from an ebay shop, haven't used them yet, but they come up pretty big. I'm generally a 34 waist, but need a belt, the XL was far too big, changed them for L and they fit pretty nicely with the straps tightened a bit. Nice soft feel to them, should be cosy for the bad weather.

I’ve got a pair of sweet mudrides which are a warranty replacement for the first set which delaminated on the seat after 18months hard use. This set are showing much the same pattern but I doubt I’ll get another replacement pair out of sweet.

I’ve also got some madison waterproof trousers which seem pretty good so far although I’ve gone off riding in mud, preferring to run when the conditions are really shitty.

currently using altura 540.

they are definatley waterproof but by god they are cold when wet. I think the madison soft shell ones are better as despite getting a soggy arse you stay warm

Might have some offcuts knocking around from when I tried it - sadly the shorts were just too baggy and I kept catching the crotch on the saddle.

I'm based near Whaley Bridge @jkomo - where abouts are you?

I also did the cut offs and found too baggy, so if I do use them I’ve got some braces to hold them up.

@jkomo - Let me try and find them and get back to you.

How do you care for your shorts? Do you wash them or just let them dry and wash the mud off?

If you shove them in the wash with all your other kit do they stay waterproof?

I have army cut offs thst just dry and dome tenn waterproof shorts tgst just go in the wash, I know they were Cheap but they are no longer waterproof.

Thanks

Detergent just breaks the waterproofing down. I just hose my Surplus Goretex cut offs down when they’re still wet mud, then hang ‘em up to dry.

For the few really nasty days I actually ride in each year, they work just great.

Softshell, dark green colour. They are waterproof which is why I bought them, just a bit heavyweight. What I really want is a waterproof pair which is normal weight.

I’ve used Altura attacks,Madison storm(older model) used the Endura Mt500 ones that were waterproof at just the rear
Now using the Fox waterproof ones
Very happy with them not heavy and have a nice brushed feel inside
No taped seems which I was a bit worried about but been totally waterproof

Yes, was sold some MT500s as being waterproof by a bike shop in Ambleside, he failed to mention only the seat was. Pretty useless in the rain, you get completely wet. They went to the charity shop pretty quick....

I had those years back, they were only waterproof on the seat, the rest leaked like a sieve....

There are both full waterproof MT500 shorts and the MT500 Spray version that is only waterproof in the seat area.

I've got 2 pairs of the mt500 spray and they've never been that waterproof at the back.
