[#10828422]

A brief outline. Any advice welcomed:
Bought a carbon Lapierre Zesty 714 (2012) from a Germany bike company in 2015.
3 months ago large crack appeared on the weld joint above the bottom bracket. After a bit of a delay and things lost in translation, Raleigh UK have taken over the warranty.
The original frame was a 26inch. I've been offered a 2018 827 carbon frame which is a 27.5. They've told me it will be supplied with "spacers" which means it will be compatible with my 26 fork and wheels.
Any advice would be appreciated, also will the my old rear shock fit?
Thanks
Terry

How can carbon crack at a weld join??

Rear shock, you’ll need to ask them what size the old and new shock are (or do a search). Your old one may or may not be the right size. Also it may need new hardware to fit the new frame. Lapierre should be able to help answer your questions here.

As for spacers. I assume that the rear is to space a non boost wheel to boost. Not quite sure how they have a spacer for a 26 fork though. Regardless, the smaller wheels will drop BB hight slightly.

Personally I’d be asking Raleigh to give you the full details as it seems you’ve been speaking to someone that is not very glued up about what the frame swap will entail as I would expect them to confirm shock compatibility and provide some detail about the ‘spacers’.

Presuming everything works OK with the spacers and isn't a bodge, I'd take it.

You'll end up with a newer/better/more current frame and you can always sell the 26 stuff and buy 27.5 if you fancy it.

They are giving you a 2018 replacement for a 2012 bike!?!

Win!

Sell the 26 stuff as you can afford it to replace with 27.5

Thanks for the feedback fellas. Think I will sell my fork (fox 32) and Easton wheels and get 27.5 replacement stuff

Good result, though you might wanna see if they can do you a 29er frame - as 29in > 27.5in.

😉

How can carbon crack at a weld join??

We are going to need an answer to this question BTW.

Just had a quick look at shock sizes. On the Lapierre website the 2018 shock size is different than I had on my 2014 Zesty, as such I suspect you're looking at a replacement shock too.

A carbon frame won't have welds on it

I had the same issue,
The shock has a cam in the mount which when swapped allows the frame to run 26" inch wheels.
The spacer is just a little bar which attaches to your shock to extend the length of it to fit the newer frame

Also the 827 frame was so much nicer to ride

Thanks again for the info.
With regard to the 'weld' on the frame this it down to me trying to explain where the crack was. I'm not very technically minded as you've all probably guessed already!!

Pretty sure you'll need a 210x50 shock and 148mm (boost) wheel.

Is don’t think you need to seek your fork. AFAIK the Fox 32 forks will take a 27.5 wheel.
