I suspect this is a stupid question to ask, but I was slightly taken aback when swapping out my pro II front hub bearings to find there is not a classic axle running through it. I assume this is correct?

The end caps seem to fit directly inside the inner bearing retainers and there is then a spacer sleeve between the two bearings(?)

I am pretty sure this is OK, but I was just a bit "errrrrm" when I took it apart!

It has gone back together fine(!)

That's right.

You can replace those end caps with 9mm bolt thru, 15QR and various other axle standards.

yep, seems to work, though I do seem to have lines forming on my maxle from the end edges of the caps.
