[#9959954]

I’m considering scratching an itch to try some MT Trails and I see the standard front hose is a metre which is nearly a foot too long for my bikes.

I see they’re olive and barb - but quick google searches don’t seem to show anyone in the UK carrying spares.  Obviously I might be wrong here so happy to hear suggestions!

My main question is, in the possible  absence of spare barb and olive, how reusable are the originals?  The olive being a crush part seems a bad plan, but surely I can carefully knife off the hose from the original barb?  And if uk sourced olives aren’t available, is there a known working alternative that is easier to get hold of?

Retail ones will have a set (2 iirc) in the pack as a result i can't say I've tried to re-use any or source new, magura or 3rd party. I can't imagine them being anything other than generic though as the hose is nothing special.

You can buy them on ebay for a couple of quid.

Awesome!  Well, I’ll wait with bated breath to see if Mr Merlin includes hose barbs etc.  If not, spotted those eBay ones.  Can’t believe I didn’t find them earlier.

Cheers, guys!

Well, there’s the answer. Mr Merlin is selling full retail MT Trail Sports, and as Dangourbrain says there are enough supplies in the box to shorten hoses twice (or presumably replace completely once).

No beef with Merlin, but it is a bit of lottery as to whether something is retail or OEM at times!

I think the hoses are crimped at one end - don;'t assume you can shorten at both ends, you have to do it at the lever end.

Ah, I’d have gone for lever anyway just wondering aloud why double the necessary parts. The calliper end is banjo but there seems to be a nutted compression fitting to it. I’m not sufficiently interested to vent the system in the idle pursuit of knowledge so no idea.

Even unfitted this feels a lovely set of brakes. My only minor grouse is the lack of supplied pad axles for the front 4-pot which is going to mean a ludicrously priced set of OEs or aftermarket pins if you want to run the better top-loaders.

Fortunately, there seem to be some reasonably priced Ti bling options ... 🤪
