Another trip I'm planning soon is a drive down from Lancaster ish to Bristol (and back). Looks like I'll be going past Cannock and the Malverns. Is there anywhere else suitable for a quick ride to break the journey? Seems rude not to visit as I'm passing, though I'm not sure of the wisdom of keeping a bike in the van over a couple of nights in a car park (hotel's own, should be fairly secure and will be concealed). Is Bristol really the world centre for bike theft that it sometimes seems, or are there just a lot of STWers there?

Stop for a lap or two of the Forest of Dean on the way? Plus local riding whilst you're here, bring lights and get out of an evening?
Detour down the A49 and ride the Long Mynd !
Long Mynd looks good - but google says its an hour and a half extra on the driving, which is a bit more than I was hoping for. Nights will mostly be spent in the pub, I hope! Thanks for the suggestions.
