^^^^^^ LOL 🙂
“How about some kind of pedal powered generator/turbo type arrangement?”
This is good…so analogue cyclists...
There must be a way to tap into the Zwift/Peleton communities' efforts..! Imagine using all that wasted pedal energy... Genius!
Huuumph!
People with gears complaining about eBIkes?
Kettle/pot surely.
Gears have ruined it for the singlespeeders who have already ruined it for the fixed wheel fraternity who ruined it for the rod-brake guys.
Will this desecration never stop - or is it Karma? 🙂
I don't normally get involved as the genie is out of the bottle and I don't think it can be put back but here goes nothing.
Bought my Kona Remote Control beginning of this year, its replaced my Process. Reading this thread I did a bit of adding up. So far this year I've ridden about 2,800 miles under 800 of those on the RC. All the rest on a combination of a couple hardtails and a flat bar converted CX bike.
As far as I'm concerned at 63 I'm channelling my 8year old self. For me it's just acting the goat 🐐 on a bike in the woods 😳 It's no more complicated than that 😁any fitness benefit is purely secondary for me. Even if I say so myself I'm not bad for my age 😎
Do I need an E Bike? Of course not! Want and need 2 entirely different things! I consider myself very lucky to be able to please myself even if I sometimes need reminding 🙄
When I was told 10 years ago by a spinal specialist to never ride off road again I couldn't have imagined what I've done and where I've been on bikes.
Maybe mr montblonc should have a look at the forum properly before banning us all. Like others have said, this site is my go to on the web. Its like going to pub with your mates. More posts on here make me laugh out loud than anywhere else. Maybe he should ask gnumas and a couple of other guys what this forum can do?.
Regards the OP, is there a better feeling than roasting anyone on ebike to be asked "what setting are on?" just before they realise it just your legs. Priceless.

ebikes are **** shite – end of discussionUntil SC or Yeti launch one, then you’ll be all over like a tramp eating chips. 🙂
Nice try,
Don't be a hater cos I have some spare money to spend on nice bikes and legs to power myself up a climb and not a lazy ****er
SC and yeti I cannot imagine will make them
Genuinely embarrassed everytime I see some one on one
And they are still shit and will remain shit till the day I die
And they are still shit and will remain shit till the day I die
That's going straight into the criminal intelligence spreadsheet...
Cool story bro.
Lots of folk like to judge me on my Bronson, as I'm sure you've experienced yourself, I try not to be such a cock to ebike users.
chill.
Is this the Daily Male Forum (or againstum?)
Life’s too short. Better off out riding and catching midges with yr smiling gnashers.

Nah. Strumsnet.

Why do you care that I care what someone on the internet cares about someone else on the internet
Just seems odd
I don't singlebollockstu. You must've misread my post.
How do you know how many bollocks I have?
Andy why do you care enough to post about it...
This is good…so analogue cyclists can be lined up stationary and use their efforts Matrix style to provide power for the e-bikers to go off and have their fun…maybe we have some software attached to the generator which shows who has provided the most watt’s into the battery…a sort of WOM…everyone kept happy.
I was thinking more that all the "it's just as much of a workout as a normal bike" riders could ride them on a turbo and have the motor feed the power back into the battery.

Well this took something of a poignant turn...
Image linking fail.

The Irony in my comment may not have been immediately obvious. Having the E-bike on the turbo in a self perpetuating energy cycle, albeit one closer to the cafe, restricts the need for the e-bikers to be having their all important consequence free 'fun' times - better to repurpose the excess muscle energy of the fitness obsessed who can be so easily placated by a self congratulatory comparison algorithm and can't possibly be enjoying themselves on the trail at their sub-warp-speed pace anyway....the darkness slowly creeps.
Oh Lordy, this thread gives me so much joy.
I’ve never actually seen an eMTB in the wilds. Mainly because I avoid other bikers in case they run over my kitten. I have seen a few in assorted country pub carparks where they have seem to have been bought by couples as a way to go on a pub crawl without risking the driving license.
Rider wins, pub landlord wins. Nothing to complain about there.

I was thinking more that they could sit there spinning away on zwift charging the battery ready for the weekend.
A bit like KERS in F1, but with moobs.
"A bit like KERS in F1, but with moobs."
Ah yes, I see now, I like. A Mooby 'Push-to-Pass' function.
I really wanted to post a Jay and Silent Bob Mooby clip but couldn’t find one that wasn’t totally NSFW.
E bikes have taken over High Lodge TC in Thetford Forest. 100% of the bikes I saw when I was there Saturday morning were E bikes. Ok, it was 7am and I only saw two other riders, but the figures speak for themselves. I’ll be writing a stern letter to the FC!
I’ve just returned home to discover my rigid steel bike has been stolen and replaced with a full suspension, carbon fibre e-bike. If this wasn’t bad enough I walked inside to tell Mrs F and the funklings, they’re not there! Instead, three more mother****ing e-MTB’s. You’re right OP they are taking over.
It too live in Macc and have yet to see an e-bike on the local trails. To be fair I'm not out on the local trails much as I spend most of my mountain bike time with my kids at trail centers mostly Llandeglla but also Cannock, Sherwood and FOD where we go on hols. At all four there are a lot of e-bikes.
I'm torn on the issue if your injured or old and want to carry on riding they make sense and in areas that an uplift is required like the downhill tracks at FOD i can see you'd get miles more runs in with an e-bike.
But they do create an artificial flow round the trail its like having loads more elite riders on the trail and at somewhere like Sherwood Red where its all singletrack it gets annoying for the kids constantly having to give way. Also, I had a chat with one of the guys at Sherwood with an e-bike he was saying it removes all the climbs, what climbs?
Part of the justification for funding of trail centers must be on improving health, and not to provide a ready-made track for e-bike fun. The most depressing thing I've seen in a while was climbing the hill at Lllandegla with my 7 and 10-year-olds been overtaken by two young teenagers on ebikes.
I know Lllandeglla is private so they can do what they want but I would ban them from FC trail centers during the busiest periods.

Aye, child poverty, record drug deaths, knife crime, organised paedophilia, all pales into insignificance when faced with a teenager on a pedal assist bike.

You need to get out more
Sorry in relation to mountain biking. There I am trying to encourage my family into an active outdoor lifestyle and they can see there's an option to cheat not get fit and get propelled to the top of the climb with little effort. I feel sorry for them.
Last spring my older son really struggled with that hill, a few weeks ago we got up it for the first time from bottom to top without stopping by putting the effort in over the year and getting a lot fitter. This has also translated to his running and made a huge improvement in his effort in his football.
I could of thought **** it I'll just buy him an electric bike it would have made my life easier not having to stop every 5 minutes. He'd stil be struggling to keep up with his siblings at park run rather than catching them and not be the most improved player in his football team.
Stainypants hits the nail on the head. Sometimes the juice is worth the squeeze. The downhills taste that bit sweeter when you've pedalled yourself to the top
Op get a fat bike then people will like you and ask about your girth while your blowing out your Harris trying to climb a hill whilst them nasty ebikers ride past saying that looks like hard work. The things I do just to get attention from someone 😭😭
I’d rather those kids were out in the outdoors having fun on their e bikes than sitting indoors on their x boxes.
Kids on e-bikes is hugely problematic, can't see the necessity of it (unless they're disabled). I'd rather see kids learn skills and a respect for their surroundings at a slower pace, and learn that with effort you can improve and grow physically without having to resort to the easy option. Can totally see how other kids would be upset by the difference...maybe more so than some of the adults on here.
Kids nowadays. Back in my day it was just e, none of this biking bollocks attached to it.
Kids on e-bikes is hugely problematic
Jesus, the experts are out in full force today.
Honestly.
Cyclists complaining about e-bikes are what give cyclists a bad name.
Massively on the fence with this one. I have a titanium plate in my knee... At 39 I ride daily on my analogue bikes. Not sure how much longer it will last and I will possibly NEED not want an e bike to continue to ride as much as I do now.
I am not fat... I am not lazy... But my knee bloody kills me every day (and I ride every day)
One thing that really puts me off is the whole attitude to e biking and some of the bellends that I have come across round swinley. Sure they could be hiding issues like me but I took my girls for a spin today and stopped for an ice cream and coffee in the shop (it's really bad coffee by the way) and counted 13 e bikes and around 15 "normal" bikes. That's almost a 50/50 split. Been riding round swinners for years and years and they are bloody everywhere now.
I will have to get one soon because of my knee but people who look at me will think I am lazy 🙁

People like yourself and some of the bellends on this thread will, yes.
This thread is quite an eye opener. In my early 50’s and riding around 3 times a week and have done so for 20 years, not fat, pretty fit, however recently diagnosed with heart disease meaning that while road and gravel riding as i currently do is fine, I need to avoid HR peaks which are common on short sharp MTB sections. Full suss ebike is on order and I will be keeping the non e drop bar bikes. Selling current FS and track bikes.
Sounds like I’m in for a tough time...
To those ridiculing, may fate and the health gods be on your side...
Holy ****, this thread keeps on giving.
Simon... I don't think I will call myself lazy 🙂 it's a juxtaposition for me as I don't want one but will need to get one to continue to ride. I am not sure I would want one if I didnt NEED one.
That's just me anyway and how I feel right now.
Sounds like I’m in for a tough time
Ian.
I'd seriously not worry about anyone giving you a tough time.
I don't get spoken to any differently when i'm on my ebike or my none ebike.
Just like I speak to other people the same no matter what they're riding.
Kids on e-bikes is hugely problematic
Oh ffs 🙄
Get a sense of perspective pleeease.
It’s kids on bikes 😳
Live and let live.
Done.
I rode mine up an Austrian mountain this morning, in turbo most of the way. Sweated my nuts off trying to keep it at 15mph. Around 900m ascent in an hour or so. Proper workout.
Then I ate cake.
On the DH bike tomorrow at Leogang but that’s downhill so obviously uses zero energy. That’s why all the good riders are fat knackers like me.
I’ll still eat cake afterwards though.
Oh ffs 🙄

Well, the trail centres near me are some of the most technical in the country. Seeing as adults end up in ambulances at the trailhead on a fairly regular basis what's so wrong about being concerned about the safety of 7-10 year olds pilling into trees at 25kph? FFS....whatevs. Swinley may be a different kettle of cod. Wasn't it just a few weeks ago that 2 kids in London died on electric scooters?
To counter the "you don't get a workout on an ebike" argument, I cycled to work today on an ebike and the computer says I burnt roughly 450 kcal on the way in, 500 on the way back (hills). That's over the course of 7 miles each way. It also says I put in about 25% of the effort and the motor put in 75% which given I was in turbo seems about right. It also says I averaged about 220W human output over both directions, a bit more when fighting the hills than not which I think isn't too shabby for a workout. Side note I love having a computer with speedo, watt meter etc to get all this data out and I'm considering a Bluetooth heart monitor to extend the stats.
Now I could turn the motor off, and then I'd burn 2000 calories doing the same route because I'm supplying all the power. Then again that would probably kill me. No I'll just gradually reduce the power mode as I lose weight.
