Motocross is also fun but I wouldn’t ride one through the woods for funs sake

Why deprive yourself of the joy of watching mincing e bikers scatter and then complaining as if they are holier than thou art on a forum full of people who don't ride later.

It's pretty funny an endurance rider who rides with half of Millets strapped to his bike think's he has somehow devised a mtb course a strong experienced mtb rider with a 15lb heavier bike won't be able to get round. 😉

Cannock chase is ruined by all the strava warrior **** anyway..

I think 'The Chase' was ruined in 2005 by two men called Gary and Stuart. Ebikes are just their latest failing.

Bloody hell. This shit again....?

E bikes are great fun. I ride for fun and thrills, hence being a mountain biker not a roadie who is all hung up on "the glory of suffering", "the honour of climbs" or whatever the bullshit is they always go on about.

Funnily enough, out on my (non powered) trail bike, I saw an absolute cock of a lycra clad XCer making a nuisance of himself buzzing people in the same way purists moan about ebikers doing. As other have said, dickheads will be dickheads regardless of mode of transport.

But if it's just that you don't like ebikes OP, give one a go. You'll be surprised how much fun it is 👍👍

It's funny sometimes when you sit behind someone going up hill you can see people physically pushing themselves as they sense someone behind them! I'm never in a hurry to pass and will wait till there's space, but it's funny watching peoples competitive side!

I usually just pass and say, yer alright, you're doing well, just a big fat cheat passing ye here! 😆 Usually gets a laugh and you can see the relief on their face that they aren't getting horsed by a normal bike!

I don't ride an e bike and I've never ridden or thought of getting one myself.
Im neither for or against there use either but the actual terminology and vile language and hatred used in this thread by some people is absolutely disgusting.
My daughter is a user on here who showed me this thread and I was absolutely apauled and therefore joined.
its unacceptable.
My job as a criminal intelligence analyst leaves me frustrated that such trivia can cause so much anger and going through the op,s posts on here along with the others I'm going to politly ask that you step away from the forum for a few days to reflect on the importance things in life that actually matter .
I've also emailed my contact details to stw if they need any assistance with this unacceptable behaviour that is quite frankly rife on some of these threads.
We have just taken 10 posts at random from the last 3 pages and 3 threads have completely the wrong tone .
I don't need to remind you life is very short .use it wisely.

@montblonc

Hello there,

I've just read the thread after seeing your post. This is the post I personally think is inappropriate. The rest is bluster and noise from posters who already know other members thoughts on ebikes. That said, I'm not the most world wise when it comes to more subtle "net grown" insults so if I've missed something of that ilk I apologise.

All I would say is that member has never posted before. He's literally signed up, posted that comment and that's it. Its pretty obvious he has his own agenda.

I totally agree with you that life is simply too short for inane stuff like this but this is a biking forum and people will argue for years over the size of a wheel let alone ebikes. Ebiking is just the latest emotive topic amongst some riders. For me, it's live and let live personally but people are genuinely passionate about bikes and riding them on here. Some anyway!

Personally I find this forum a refuge from the utterly ferocious and intolerant ravings I have seen on social media. To the point I simply don't use social media at all now.

I can't comment on the other threads you mention but if the mods see inappropriate behaviour they are usually very much on the ball about such things. They have a difficult task however as they can be called draconian or "lax" depending upon the view point.

To use the word you use, moderating the "tone" of a thread is much harder than it initially sounds. On the whole stw gets it right but no system is beyond improvement and I'm sure the mods would say similar, without me putting words into their mouths.

So,I am not dismissing what you say at all and find it honestly sad that your first encounter with this forum is a negative one. I'm genuine when I say that as this forum is my "home" on the net. Not just regarding biking but about life in general.

The true character of this place is the help it has given to members facing huge personal challenges and tragedies. Members on here have gone well beyond the norms to help out other members on occasion simply because they can.

Please don't write off this forum based on the few threads you have read. Its a microcosm of the real world for sure, with all that, that entails but in almost all contexts a far more understanding and tolerant version.

Please note, I'm not speaking on behalf of stw or anything, I'm just an average Joe member, no more.

I’ve never actually seen an Ebike in the wild, just commuter versions. Then again I do live in Macclesfield so we’ve probably not had electricity for that long.

leaves me frustrated that such trivia can cause so much anger

Have a read of this thread in its entirety. It's compelling and rich, and shows the forum at its best, compared to the overflow of bile on Ebike threads.

https://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/eu-referendum-are-you-in-or-out/

Provided you are a genuine new user, give it six months, you'll be raging about axle width standards and not getting acknowledged by miserable roadies as well. 🙂

Ride Cannock chase all the time. See at least one ebike every ride. Normally overtaking me up cardiac hill, but then kids with stabilizer's still on could over take me up that hill.

Some of these riders look like the could out ride me regadless of what they ride, others not so much.
But that doesn't effect me or my ride, no sure why the OP is so bothered about the ride and work out others get or don't get.

So far everyone of the ebikers and most traditional bikers has been nice and friendly just like most people at Cannock.

When I have been buzzed, it's never been by an ebike rider, as others have said. Dick's be Dick's choice of transport doesn't really come into it.

If I ever get an ebike, I think I'll ride it in the nude. That way people won't be talking about the bike.

Eh? Vile language and hatred? What have I missed here, this is obviously a troll thread with lots of amusing responses and folks on the wind up. Where is the hatred? (Other than for ebikes!)

As for whether I'd have one...if I rode trail centres like I use to then probably yes. From my exp of glentress and inners there is very little fun derived from slogging your way to the Top, and lots from riding back down the hill. And that's coming from a watts obsessed roadie who loves climbing.

f any e-bikes are coming to http://www.southlakesbikefest.com its an extra £10 for you dudes, to pay for the diesel for the generator 🙂 not all routes will be ebike friendly though

Hadn't even thought of that! The added noise, polution and cost associated with having an e-bike catergory at events is going to be increasing over the years as they become more popular and affordable.

I’d say trail centres are the places where you should see them. It’s the best place for them. It makes me worry for future access freedoms when you see them out on mountains and wild trails. They’re only going to get faster, more efficient and powerful and other trail users will start to campaign against them when there’s an accident.

I don't think you're seeing as many ebikes as you think. I can ride 30k and see no regular bikes but a fair few ebikes... because the ebikes over take me. But that doesn't mean the regular bikes aren't there, you just don't see them so its skews your view on numbers.

More importantly though, how do we know that burner and montblanc are not the same person?

Rode my first ebike today, 4000ft up an Austrian mountain - hilariously effortless, those that claim it is some form of exercise are seriously deluded.

Surprised that he didn't go for 'senior social worker' to tip the wink to the cognoscenti. Standards are slipping.

I personally don't have much against e-bikes, I've had a couple of demos and they are hilariously good fun. But I must admit I took daily mail-esque umbrage the last time I was at Glentress and got passed by a train of e-bikes on the spooky wood climb. Not because they passed me but because they had all taken an uplift to the bottom of the singletrack climb!

Uplifting an E-bike at at a trail centre is a bit of a piss take.

Great aren’t they, would you have ridden the same route otherwise or something easier ?

those that claim it is some form of exercise are seriously deluded.

This one rode 5000 more miles than normal in the last 12 months since an ebike purchase and is 2.5 stone lighter than he was this time last year.
Deluded, possibly. But not about this.

I’ve also emailed my contact details to stw if they need any assistance with this unacceptable behaviour that is quite frankly rife on some of these threads.

While you're at it, you should also  make a few suggestions regarding the usability of the forum software.

I'm sure they'll appreciate the assistance.

"any e-bikes are coming to http://www.southlakesbikefest.com /a> its an extra £10 for you dudes, to pay for the diesel for the generator 🙂 not all routes will be ebike friendly though"

I know nothing but does such a thing exist as a portable renewable energy source and storage device? versus the use of a diesel generator - I'm imagining a collapsable wind turbine and battery pack with a bank of solar.....probably doesn't exist, yet.

In our local area we very rarely see e-bikes, however a couple of months ago I was riding the black at Llandegla and a couple on e-bikes were sort of buzzing me on a long climb that I was determined to clean, the pressure was too much and I got off. They did hold me up on the descent though.
We didn't see any on the Verderers trail in the forest of Dean.

The only worry I have is that our local biking area is full of understanding horse riders and walkers who don't mind us being around, but this could change with the speed of the e-bike. I've already been cut up by one rider on a wide fast corner.

Otherwise e-bikes are a good thing. It gets people out biking and enjoying the countryside and fresh air. I'm sure in the future I will need one.

This.

Spent the last week in North Wales on holiday, I think I saw more E-Bikes in Beics Brenin than in 13 hours I spent riding at Coed-y-Brenin, Penmachno and Llandegla. Though to be fair i reckon aside from Llandegla (MTBMeetup) I reckon we saw lass than 25 people out on the trails midweek.

I also ride at Cannock every couple of months and I think as it's so busy (certainly on FTD, less so on Monkey) you will come into contact with more people, some of which will be dicks and some of which will be on ebikes.  You'll just notice the ebike dicks more as you'll actually come into contact with them.

How about some kind of pedal powered generator/turbo type arrangement?

"How about some kind of pedal powered generator/turbo type arrangement?"

This is good...so analogue cyclists can be lined up stationary and use their efforts Matrix style to provide power for the e-bikers to go off and have their fun...maybe we have some software attached to the generator which shows who has provided the most watt's into the battery...a sort of WOM...everyone kept happy.
