Yes, I'm probably getting ahead of myself as it's not until next March!

I had a great weekend at SSUK 25 and topped it off by winning a drunken running race for a free entry to next years Battle in the Beach.

Obviously I'll have to do it singlespeed, so what sort of ratio is going to be best?

I'll probably do it on my Surly Krampus (so 29x3 tyres).

Would a 38x18 (or maybe 38x20) be about right? I'm guessing whatever I use I'll spin out on the beach and struggle on the single-track 😁

When I've done it SS with 29x3.00  34:18 was about right, but I can hold a high cadence happily and spin like a loony, and then you have some good fun in the singletrack

I'll see you there next year as I'm taking the monster wheeler for a laugh as it should fly along the beach so I'll keep an eye out for other fools on daft bikes

34x18 serms about right. I agree. 38x18 is madness.

Cheers guys 😁

@tazzymtb - you were missed at SSUK. We drank your share for you (we even invented a new shot - tequila espresso martinis)
