Bike Mechanic Simulator 2023 – say goodbye to the real world

by 19

It’s not so long ago that we had a Forum thread where someone asked advice on starting a bike shop, and the almost universal response was ‘don’t’. Now, you can save yourself the stress, tears and financial losses in the real world, by experiencing them in the virtual one. Bike Mechanic Simulator 2023 is coming soon. We apologise in advance if the website looks a bit quiet…

Bike Mechanic Simulator 2023 is slated to release for PC and consoles, debuting in early 2023 on PC, and in the next step it will also be released for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch.

The game is billed as a realistic simulation where you take on the role of a bicycle mechanic. The gameplay is based mainly on repairing, servicing and assembling unique bikes as part of your orders, as well as developing your workshop and testing out equipment. Players will have a dozen or so types of tools and repair stations at their disposal.

“This is the first project of its kind in the gaming industry. We highly appreciate realistic and relaxing gameplay. We approach the mapping of specific bicycle parts and repair processes with an excellent level of detail. That said, in some respects Bike Mechanic Simulator 2023 will also be simplified, because we want to provide players with a high level of playability,”

CEO Manager Games S.A., Tomasz Sobiecki.

The developers promise a wide variety of equipment with the main bike categories including city, mountain bike and road – from simple models to ultra-modern designs for high-performance characters. Each bike model will consist of several dozen different parts. The simulator will offer wheels of various sizes, many types of drivetrains and shocks, and frames made from various materials.

“Bike Mechanic Simulator 2023 will be an extensive and elaborate game. Of course, diagnostics and repairs are the main elements of it, but at the same time the player will have to see that his workshop is growing and everything is running smoothly. We also have interesting possibilities for testing bicycles in store for you – they are bound to diversify the gameplay even more,”

Tomasz Sobiecki.

Bike Mechanic Simulator 2023 – main features:

  • the career of a bicycle mechanic;
  • bike servicing, repair, assembly and testing;
  • various orders;
  • many different kinds of bicycles and components;
  • various game modes (story mode and sandbox).

We have questions! Like, are there customers? Do they come in and insist they were just riding along? Or that they need this thing fixing today? Will you have to deal with warranty claims? Will new standards be launched at random and you’ll have to buy a whole new tool in order to fix anything that comes into the shop? Will there be surprise mechanical discoveries, like opening up a bottom bracket to find an inch of mud, or finding your internal able routing has rubbed away the inside of your head tube?

Can you pick different locations? Perhaps a nice Mediterranean resort with lots of tourist road riders and not a lot of mud? Or perhaps something more challenging, like a shop in the Tweed Valley? Will there be component shortages, can you round off a chainring bolt? Will you get fired for leaving a stem loose, or promoted for fixing the obsolete?

Is it actually possible to win and make money, or is it inevitable that you’ll end up broke and not have ridden an actual bike for months?

As someone who has lost days and weeks to the likes of Theme Hospital, Thief, and Black and White, I’m slightly hoping this is a damp squib that makes you realise the real thing is altogether more fun. If it’s any good, please don’t tell me.

I came to Singletrack having decided there must be more to life than meetings. I like all bikes, but especially unusual ones. More than bikes, I like what bikes do. I think that they link people and places; that cycling creates a connection between us and our environment; bikes create communities; deliver freedom; bring joy; and improve fitness. They're environmentally friendly and create friendly environments. I try to write about all these things in the hope that others might discover the joy of bikes too.

    Hopefully that won’t be used by people to train for the real thing – it looks like the allen keys and chain splitter go the wrong way to loosen/tighten – it isn’t righty-tighty and lefty-loosey in that video!

    I assume the final screenshot in the report is Saturday Assistant at Halfords level, with the rear reflector mounted on the front fork?

    Isn’t this about 6 weeks late?

    @Matthew_Hornby lol. I wonder if you can cause chaos by putting the brakes on the wrong/right way round and the forks backwards?

    There’s hundreds of these “simulators” on Steam being churned out over the last few years. They look nice in the screenshots but all use the same template.

    “Take care of various bicycle types!” is an enticing strapline for sure.

    If anyone’s genuinely interested in becoming a bike mechanic, maybe drop your nearest bicycle co-op or bike recycling project a line, sign up as a volunteer, and go do it in the real?

    They should include a Halfords special that’s lain in a shed for 6 months. That will be the hardest test of all. Crank the frustration level up to 11.

    Fix this £75 bike for at least 50% less than it originally cost or the owner won’t pay for it. If you can’t/won’t then their one legged dog won’t be able to get to the ICU to keep their dying relative company and they’ll lead a campaign on Facebook and twitter to cancel your business because you killed their 130 year old gran.

    That is the most elaborate April fools joke in the bike world ever… which explains why it was released over a month late.

    Now if it really does simulate “the career of a bicycle mechanic;”… we can expect it to feature, poverty, ruin, shitty rented accommodation, divorce, grey hair in your 30’s, no pension, bad knees, constant complaining about whatever is the next new thing you have to work on, destitution and deprivation.

    Don’t forget the ‘Loose Pedals Innit M8’ DLC for extra hilarity! Is it the pedal axle, the (square taper, obvs) crank bolts or the BB that’s forked? Oh, it’s the BB? You’ll need all of the BB Tool DLCs as well in that case because the normal length tool won’t work on ISIS BBs and they both don’t work on HT2 BBs and the old HT2 BB tool won’t fit the new XT HT2… 🤣 You did unlock the ‘blowtorch’ back on level 2, didn’t you? No? Oh, you’ll need that too- back you go!

    If you refuse that job then the grandson that looks like Bluto from Popeye comes round and the game suddenly turns into a beat-em-up.

    Oh no, those bolts loosening and tightening has really triggered me 🤣 , I mean could they not have got any form of sponsorship either?

    I’m not interested in that at all, doesn’t look like it’s been made by people that really know the industry if you ask me…

    Ultimate cheat code, IAMANENGINEER, then everything is possible and everyone else is wrong, even if it is still broken and can’t be fixed.

    In all caps too, that’s a nice real-world touch 😆

    Oh dear, oh dear oh dear.

    This would be cheaper than my current plan though, as I am an engineer (degree and 20 years in industry), and have just purchased a real bike shop! (I have worked across multiple bike shops in the past, including being a Saturday boy at Halfords, so not totally blind) Also just to cap it off, just fixed my neighbours “that’s not a chain, it’s a rusty bar” Halfords bike for about 50?% of it rrp.

    Ah well what can go wrong…….
