Nottingham, made famous by Robin Hood and Raleigh Activator bikes, is now the European home of Pyga bikes.
Pyga is a small South African bike brand that produces handmade alloy framesets for enduro and all-mountain fans. The Pyga range covers XC, all-mountain and enduro and because each bike is made in-house customers can choose custom finishes and decals too.
The Pyga fanbase has been growing from strength to strength over the years, and now with a new UK manufacturing partner, we expect to see plenty more Pyga framesets on European trails.
The new European HQ for Pyga will be located in Nottingham where the company has teamed up with Nottingham Powder Coating LTD, a company with over 40 years of powder coating experience. The deal will see handmade Pyga frames finished to customer specs in Nottingham before being shipped around Europe.
Below we have the official news from Pyga themselves:
Famous around the globe for the folklore legend Robin Hood and the ancient woodlands of Sherwood Forest, PYGA Mountainbikes are delighted to announce that all frames to be distributed to European customers – will now be powder coated and assembled in Nottingham, England.
Partnering with the Nottingham Powder Coating Ltd, who have been in the business for over 40 years, to finish the handmade frames with the highest quality and hard-wearing powder coating ensuring a super high-end finish.
Thanks to the new partnership, European customers can choose from over 170 colour combinations, that can now be painted and delivered within two weeks of order!
If customers want a HYRAX finished in Taxi Yellow with Pink Neon decals (they may need their eyes testing) but they can have it!
Other, more subtle, colour combo’s are available – using the mix and match tool on the website, customers can create a dream look:
Bespoke frame colours are £70/€70 and decals £30/€30 extra.
Investing in the UK as its European base for finishing and distribution, PYGA Mountainbikes are also now a proud member of the Bicycle Association of Great Britain. The association is a not-for-profit cycle trade association, supporting the U.K. industry at government level.
So if any U.K. or visiting European rippers fancy a test ride in Sherwood Forest itself, get in touch with Duncan or Sarah via the website to organise a burn and a beer. You never know, you may even spot the outlaw himself! #RideDifferent #RobinHoodLives

Bet they’ll regret choosing the UK as a base for supplying Europe post Brexit!
@footflaps or perhaps they’re being very smart? Frames are made in SA then powder coated in the UK, wonder if they’ll enter the EU without tariffs?
Doesn’t matter – supplying EU from UK with non-UK produced product means that they are liable for the new duty rates.
Does the powder coat process constitute finishing the frame? Therefore technically uk made?
No – Ridley, Orbea and others are similar in that they outsource frame production and paint in-house. They are liable for the new duty rates.
Never forget the Activator
Frames made in South Africa are already imported tariff free into the EU.
But SA-UK-EU would attract 4.7% duty and bikes would be 14% as with Cotic for Taiwan made product?
Frames wouldn’t, bikes probably would (depending on the components used). That’s my understanding anyway. The rules of origin are more generous for South Africa and some other African nations than they are for Taiwan. The declarations would be complicated though.
How confusing….
well i think its good news. i’m sure they have a cunning plan.
I think with a SA made frame, that’s painted and assembled in the UK with European made wheels Pyga may have found a way around the Brexit nonsense. It’ll be interesting to see how this develops.
Good news for Nottingham (my home town) as others have mentioned though let’s hope Brexshit doesn’t burn them.
Well that might be the answer to -where to get my frame powder coated in Nott’s sorted!
‘delivered within two weeks of order’
you’ll be lucky if our shipments to the EU in recent months have been anything to go by. i’m sure it’ll all get worked out…
Hi Guys
Thanks for all the comments and interest.
This may answer the questions raised: https://eu.pygamountainbikes.com/2021/01/04/news-story-zero-import-duty-or-u-k-value-added-tax-costs-on-pyga-frames/?v=79cba1185463
Keep on ripping
PYGA
Nice one!
Neat. Not heard of Pyga before. Liking the look of the Hyrax – Translucent Honey Red with red decals might tempt me away from my matt black Canyon Spectral. Maybe next year when things open back up and household costs reduce with one child away from home
