Orange has announced a new Pro Line build for the Orange Five and Alpine 6 that focuses on suspension performance and affordability.
You know how it can be. You want a certain frame, with a certain level of suspension, but to get it you have to go for a top of the range bike with flashy components you either don’t want or you’re going to end up replacing anyway.
Then if you want to keep your price down, you’re lumbered with lower-spec suspension and perhaps a lower-spec frame.
To get around that there’s always the custom build option, but chances are it’s going cost more buying a bike that way. If only brands would offer great frames, with great suspension but with affordable components to keep the cost down….
And this is where the Orange Pro Line builds come to play. Orange has taken the popular Orange Five and Orange Alpine6 models and built Pro Line level bikes that have top of the range suspension but without the top end pricing.
If you were to pick up an Orange Five Pro Line or Alpine 6 Pro Line today with no options and a standard colour the bike would cost £3,999. Not bad for a handmade UK frame dripping with top-end Fox or Rockshox suspension.
To ensure prices are kept low, Orange has chosen budget drivetrains, so while the Pro Line Orange 5 boasts a Fox Factory 36 fork it also runs a budget SRAM SX 12 speed drivetrain. It’s a clever mix of components that are going to enable more riders to get on a better performing bike at a lower price.

Orange are so stuck in the dark ages I’m surprised their e-bike isn’t steam powered.
I like the concept – but it fails on the budget 12 speed. NOS 11 or even 10 achieves their aim far better, for less weight and better reliability.
does the rear suspension still lock up when you hit the rear break
Orange is definitely a Marmite brand.
I reckon that’s a great idea.
It has to be a good thing – whether you are a fan of Orange or not, having the ability to spec a great suspension set up with cheaper components is great if you are on a budget.
I think an 11-speed option might also have made sense tho.
Seems very sensible to me. Good suspension performance is going to have far more impact on riding enjoyment than a fancy drivechain. Even basic drivechains work pretty well and even can be more robust and long lasting.
Makes a lot of sense. Especially for those of us that like to pull the SRAM groupset off a new bike and replace with Shimano.
