Has Hannah spotted a women’s Red Bull Rampage style event in the making? Follow the clues with her and see what you think.

It was well past our bedtimes here in the UK,  but ignoring the ‘don’t look at screens before sleeping’ advice I just happened to spot a post on Instagram which got me wondering…

Katie Holden, freerider and Santa Cruz/Juliana sponsored rider, posted this to her Instagram. She’s going to move the needle forward… I don’t think she’s talking knitting.

Photographer Katie Lozancich says Katie Holden has been working on something big. But it will be revealed this week… Red Bull Rampage is 25th October, which is next week. Not this week. So maybe it’s not a women’s Rampage. Or should that be Ewe-age? Sorry…

  • What is the squad up to?

Instagram stories show Vero Sandler, Micayla Gatto, Vaea Verbeeck, Casey Brown and Tahnée Seagrave hanging out in Virgin, Utah and using the hashtag #Formation. I asked Vero what they’re up to and she said there’s just a bunch of them out there for a week digging and building lines. Hmm… is that true? Or is Vero just keeping the cat firmly in the bag?

Look back through Micayla’s posts and she’s also saying she can’t wait to share what’s in store. She repeatedly answers comments saying no, she’s not riding Rampage. But that’s not to say she’s not riding in a different but connected event… like a women’s Rampage?

‘Formation’…what does that bring to mind? Riding in formation? A play on form, as in good form when pulling tricks? Or a play on form, as in making or building? Rock formations? There’s certainly plenty of glorious ones in Utah. Formation as in something new starting? Or is it just short for ‘Information’, as in ‘we really have no further information about what is going on but godammit we want to know’?

What could it be? Some kind of freeride showcase for women? A video showing women riding Rampage style lines? I don’t think it’s actually going to be a women’s Rampage – not this year.

Or are they really all just having a nice time on a dig in the desert? Whatever it is, I hope it’s something good. When I find out, I’ll let you know!
