Formed in 2015, North East Trail Centre Organisation (NETCO) was founded to bring a mountain biking trail centre to Northeastern Scotland. One day, the group hopes to one day build a modern 35mi+ mountain bike facility catering to everyone from beginners to elites to Scotland’s third-largest city.
By filling a geographic gap in mountain bike coverage, the desired centre intends to “increase participation in cycling, improve health and access to the outdoors and deliver social benefits to Aberdeen City and Shire – all minutes away from the Granite City.”
NETCO is working closely with Developing Mountain Biking in Scotland, pursuing funding through various grant schemes. But grants alone are not enough- support from the mountain biking community is critical. While cash in any amount is always welcome, the Organisation also seeks letters of support from individuals, companies, and other organisations that would bolster the planned centre’s business plan. Please direct these letters, detailing the benefits of such a centre, to netcomtb@gmail.com.
Having narrowed the list of possible venues from thirty to four, NETCO plans next to commission a large-scale feasibility study for each location. To follow the project, visit the NETCO website or subscribe to the group’s Facebook page.
