Heading into the wild and want a bit of back up? Ridersmate may just be the answer you’re looking for…
Here’s the Press Release:
Advanced GPS Safety Tracking for Cyclists and Mountain Bikers
Ridersmate, the world’s first dedicated GPS safety and tracking device for cyclists, launches February 9th. Priced at £249, it will be available exclusively from www.ridersmate.com, for immediate delivery worldwide.
Designed for both road cyclists and mountain bikers, Ridersmate is an advanced safeguard that provides real protection for those who like to ride alone, in rural areas, or at night. From the minute it’s switched on, Ridersmate begins recording and saving data about location, speed, altitude and heading. In the event of a serious accident, it immediately sends an emergency text to up to three contacts, letting them know the location and speed of the accident, so they can arrange for help.
David Coleman, Director of Ridersmate, explains:
“However careful and experienced you are, everyone falls off their bike at some point! Whilst in most cases, you’ll be left with nothing more than a few scrapes and a bruised ego – serious injuries do happen, and if you’re alone when they do, the consequences could be disastrous.
In the event of serious injury, every second counts, and getting the right medical assistance quickly makes a huge difference to recovery outcomes and survival rates. Compact, robust and dependable, Ridersmate is there to protect you should the worst happen.”
Created by Humberside-based company, Ridersmate, the launch of the Ridersmate units follows 4 years of development.
Lightweight and durable, Ridersmate fits easily onto both rider and cyclist, and features an 8+ hour battery life for a full day’s riding. With full Google Maps integration, users can also save, store and share their favourite rides online, via the Ridersmate website.
Designed and developed by pioneering GPRS and vehicle tracking expert David Coleman, Ridersmate is designed to provide protection and peace of mind that comes from knowing you’ll never be left injured and stranded when riding alone.

not sure i would want my family or friends being the first point of call. Must be a better solution to contacting the emergency series. may cars have a facilty to dial emergnce sevices if its involved in a colision.
Doesn’t ICEdot do much the same thing?
The Echo 112 smartphone app does this for free as far as I can tell.
Also the amount of times this thing will go off when riders either fall off harmlessly or forget it’s attached and get off will be either comical or tragic depending on how your loved ones respond (or don’t respond)
Since about 90% of the riding I do here in the Brecon Beacons has zero phone signal it is rather pointless to be fair.
“Designed for both road cyclists and mountain bikers” – no cx version???
I like it. So much so I have subscribed to their kickstarter programme. The false alerts is sorted because if you reattach it, it sends another signal cancelling the first.
Is there a version for 29’ers ?
It needs a phone/data signal and so is useless out in the mountains. Get a SPOT tracker if you really need that level of emergency tracking and response.
8 hour battery life? Just for recovery rides then;-)
Should work well on the higher slopes of the UK mountains and hills where you can often get good LoS and signal. Not so well in the valleys where signal gets very patchy.
