This week, we revisit trail 42.
Today, we’re revisiting the guys down at trail 42 based on the edge of the Forest of Dean. In what has been an amazing first year for the ethically sourced MTB clothing and accessories brand, they take stock of progress to date and look forward to a bonkers-busy 2015…
How’s it all going, Ruth? Managed to catch your breath?
Wow, our first year of trading has flown by. We have had loads of fun, made lots of great new friends, launched some fantastic new designs and, most importantly, experienced some great riding!
What have been the highlights so far?
We have exhibited at a few shows including the London Bike Show and the Bike and Tri Show in Manchester, working with one of our stockists Victor and Liberty. We have also sponsored the Red Kite Events Gravity Enduro Series and attended the first ever Afan Shed Fest organised by the Afan Bike Shed.
Talking about events, we have also joined forces with Clare Curtis and Michelle from The Bikeyard to organise a number of women’s trail takeovers (#trailtakeovers). We started the year with 35 women riding in the Forest of Dean and went on to hold events in Afan and, more recently, in Leamington Spa. If you want to find out more, see our recently set up website with more information about women’s specific events, organised by the three of us.
What was hot this summer?
Back in July we held our first kids’ mountain biking event as part of the Bristol Cycle Festival. We had about 35 kids racing and fantastic coaching from Rebecca. More recently we had a party in the Forest to celebrate our first year of trading and Rich’s 42nd birthday, with a guided ride and the most awesome birthday cake!
You’ve clearly been getting stuck in at the grass-roots. But back to business: what’s happening in-house?
Our screen-printing workshop is now up and running and we have launched our first range of designs, which we are printing on our popular bamboo tech-T’s and our recently introduced organic t-shirt range. As well as our standard prints, we have also been providing bespoke designs for some great companies including Plush Hill Cycles, Ace Components and Pedalabikeaway in the Forest of Dean. We now offer this as a service – so if you have an idea then Rich can design and print your very own t-shirts.
For Christmas we are launching a black colour version of our Classic tech-T and we will be printing some of our existing designs plus some new ones as A3 posters, so you can admire them on your wall all year round!
… and you’ve been getting the all important product out through your dealer network?
We have expanded our range of stockists and can now be found in Pedalabikeaway, 559 Bikes, Afan Lodge, Afan Bikeshed, Prestige Cycles, Roll for the Soul, Pedal Progression, I Love Velo, Victor and Liberty and South Downs Bikes.
In all it’s been an exhausting but rewarding first year and we are very excited about our future plans. This is also a great opportunity to thank all of those great people that have supported and encouraged us along the way including of course all our customers. We couldn’t have done it without you. Stay in touch with us on Facebook and Twitter for updates.

Currently wearing one of their bamboo t-shirts and it’s a favourite. Stays fresh for a lot longer than cotton.
