XC Winter Race tyres

So I’m racing the Brass monkeys enduro series this winter and I’m thinking about tyre choices, current options are

2.1 Maxxis Swampthings
1.8 Geax Barros extremes

Anybody got a suggestion for a relatively fast rolling winter rear to match with a swampy up front?
You can’t mix a Swampy with a Barros because the handling gets really weird.

Im going to use black tyres and probably mudx

In my opinion you would be far quicker with a more intermediate or even summer tyre.
I tend to use Racing ralphs all year round, maybe with a Nobby nic on the front.

Dirty Dans from On One. 450g, seem pretty fast for such a grippy tyre!

Saying that, the Brass Monkeys tend to be sloppy rather than anything else, I rode Rocket Rons last year and they were fine.

Conti Speed Kings or Schwalbe Rocket Rons. Can’t go far wrong.

You don’t need mud-specific tyres round here as its sand-based rather than clay. As njee says, sloppy rather than gloopy. Nobby Nics at most.

If its wet then brake pads will be your problem rather than tyres, particularly at Round 2!

Maxxis Swampthing’s grip well in the wet but they’re certainly not light or fast rolling 😯

I’d agree something like Nobby Nic’s would probably be ideal.

The one in 3 weeks time is at Porridgepot where I while away the odd hour.

Spent some time there the day before yesterday and was fine with a NN up front and a Conti X-King at the back. Nothing deep and nasty just a little bit slippy. Climbs were fine with no lack of traction.

The area does drain really well though and is fine within hours of bad rain. Can’t see it getting too much worse by then.

I’m on Rocket Ron’s at the minute and think there brilliant so might just stick with them and see what happens
