I know I'm going to regret this, but the Friday blokes thread has made me really aware of my own shortcomings. I'm five nine and a half and weigh around 14-stone, I'd say a fair bit of that is muscle, but I'm also painfully aware that there's a thick layer of fat on top. It's fair to say that I can pinch somewhat more than an inch
I'm not really bothered about general health benefits or owt like that, I just think I'd feel better about myself if I had a really well-defined set of abdominal muscles. I'm sure there are lots of others like me out there who'd like to look a bit more 'Men's Health' and a bit less Ricky Hatton.
What I'm planning is to get a six-pack by Christmas. Before people start off slagging me and saying it's vanity, trust me, it's not, nor am I planning to do any drastic training or severe dieting because I'm sure neither are healthy.
Instead I'm hoping that by trimming down my consumption of three main food groups I can strip away the fat in double quick time - beer, cake and choclate. My plan is to limit myself to no more than four pints in any one session and never to go drinking more than three times a week, maximum, not minimum in case anyone was wondering. Cake - plan is only to eat cake after a ride when I've properly earned it and not mid-ride unless it's a really long one, more than 20 miles or so. Finally, I'm going to cut my chocolate consumption drastically from my normal mid-morning Green and Blacks bar to only half.
I'm hopeful that by doing the above and maybe adding a few extra short, fat-burning walks to my schedule, the fat will fall off. Also by eating more lean protein, lamb shops, sausages, that sort of thing, I'll encourage muscle growth.
Anyone else fancy joining me? We can support each other virtually and cajole and encourage when things seem hard?
And before people start laying into me about vanity, that's simply not the case. I don't want to do this for myself, only so other people can see my abs more clearly.
Thanks for reading, who else is in on this?
