  • RockShox servicing, really need the service kits?

I want to service my revelations, I know the wiper seals need replacing as they let water in, but do I really need the service kits for the motion control and u-turn? The prices are ridiculous for a few tiny o-rings and contain things I don’t need like new caps for the air valves. I can’t see why I need new snap rings either.

On the other hand I lose the pressure from the -ve chamber within a ride, and oil leaks out of every available orifice, so maybe I do need to replace the o-rings?

For a full service and if they leak yes, I take the line that if I’m stripping them everything get replaced.

No. All the O rings are just standard things available off a shelf somewhere. The only custom part is the grey wiper seal you can see up top. Underneath that there is a sponge ring and some forks have another black oil seal under there too. That black oil seal is a standard hydraulic ram seal, about £1 if you can find them (I used to have a link, it’s not hard to source them)
O rings are the same. A few pence once you find the right size. You just need to measure them up (I’ll go looking for the link I got mine from…)
But if there’s no leaks internally, there’s no pint bothering for a DIY service

    🙂

    Here you go:

That’s where I got mine from when my Pikes were leaking damping oil
You have to pop the old O rings out and measure them carefully, but they have every size under the sun. I was the same as the OP, I just REFUSE to pay £20+ for a few O rings which cost pence, especially as I only needed the one! 🙂

Also you might find that if they’re slowly leaking air, that the existing seals are just dry, and that a clena and relube will sort it out anyway! 🙂

What I mean is if they’re leaking it’s best to replace the seals, where you source them from (whether they’re the RS kit) or seal suppliers doesn’t really matter as long as they’re good quality and the right size.

I just replace everything, valves, circlips, spring washers e.t.c as if they ‘go’ they can cause more expensive damage if they’re rattling around inside the forks.

Hmmmm OK I’m going to replace them. I would send them off for a service but I’m a geek and like to do everything myself and see how things work (usually not as well afterwards!).

Just found this http://forums.mtbr.com/showthread.php?t=579868. There is an argument that the hassle of finding the o rings makes it worthwhile buying the RS kits…hmmmmm

ooo good link. That will come in very handy for my forks and other things.

Just need a list of the Rev o-rings now.

yeah I have U-Turn not Dual Air though, so that kit would only do one leg.
