Removing an old back boiler – Advice

We’re looking at getting a new inset gas fire and need to remove the old back boiler. Has anyone done this or got any advice? Is it difficult to do?

Also I cant see a lintel, will we need to get one put in when the back boiler is removed?

Im pretty sure the back boiler has been disconnected a long time ago. there was and old gas fire installed when we moved in which we had this disconnected and removed at the time. We’re only just getting round to putting a new fire in now, Ive just removed the 70’s stone surround.

The gap is probably narrow enough to rely on the cantilever of the brick. In true st/internet style knock it all out and fit a huge wood burner 😀

Don’t do what the people in our old house did….just cut the pipes off in the upstairs water tank.
Was an interesting experience watching some horror movie with my then new girlfriend when, after lighting the fire for the 1st time, brown liquid started oozing down the wall 😯

We ripped ours out, put a piece of RSJ through the back and a huge piece of flat across the front,

Supported everything with a couple of lazy boys from the hire shop whilst we did the work.
