A path upgrade of the West Highland Way over Conic Hill commenced on Tuesday 12 February 2013. The work will last for 8 weeks.

During this period the route over Conic Hill will be closed. A diversion and signage is in place from Garadhban Forest via Milton of Buchanan then along the B837 public road to rejoin the route at Balmaha.

Tree felling will also be taking place until June 2013.

When walking this section of the West Highland Way please take care and follow the diversions on this map.

If you’re not fussed about doing Conic Hill, some time during the next 8 weeks might be a good time to do your WHW 😀 Otherwise, wait and see what the path upgrades are like?

I do hope it’s finished for the 12th April, as there’s a few of us doing a wee bivvy trip up the way over a couple of nights. Just like the pushfest at the top of Loch Lomond, if you don’t do conic, you’ve not done the way….

Ta for that! Hopefully will be open at the end of April- as said above, if you don’t do Conic, you haven’t done the Way..

    A couple of quick questions:

    What is the terrain like?

Also is there a lot of climbing & decending?

Fancy giving a bash this year, but hoping to do it over 2 days……

Nort east Loch Lomond is almost unrideable from memory- had trouble walking it a few years back.
Devils staircase is v technical and rocky apparently, doubt I’ll manage to ride a lot of it. There’s also some big water bars which are almost too big to hop.
Apart from that- piece of piss.
