Full rigid single speed…..?

Who’s riding fully rigid ss ?

Whereabouts have you ridden and what’s your thoughts ?

Going to take the Hummer out of hibernation and get some miles in the ice, slush and mud this weekend….

The hummer hasn’t been used in a while though will get taken to the Lakes in March for the gears!

I do … ride it most places,except silly hills etc …
Just like the directness of it 🙂

Where?Snowdonia,north wales,dark peak….for the last 6 years.
Thoughts?I really want some biscuits but can be arsed walking to the shop to get some.

NWAlps, very mucky, and a lot underwater, so this is ideal unless you want to ride along listening to expensive parts being ground to paste

Niner One9 with niner forks which I use for the Lakes.

In the past I’ve also had a Genesis io which was fantastic but had dropout bolts made of cheese and I couldn’t keep the wheel from slipping and a dialled love/hate which was beefier but encouraged a broken scaphoid. These were used in the peaks, dales and dalby/sherwood a lot more.

I’m slowly getting talked into a Singular Pegasus by a bad bad man.

Thoughts? If I was forced to own just one bike it would be a rigid ss. And that contrary to popular opinion I think 26ers might be equally as good for rigid ss’ing as 29ers.

The Nicolai took a beasting today in mud, ice, snow and slush…..miserable…..

peak district, lakes, scotland, north wales natural and even trail mincer places….6-12 and 24 hr races….it’s all fine and dandy

Yes we do, there are 8 of us in our clan who ride SS around the Chilterns and half have rigid forks. This bike must be one of the easiest bikes I’ve ever owned for looking after even with all the mud we’re riding through and fun to ride, fast too!.

I tried carbon rigids and they made climbing a lot easier and the bike was really light. Descending was another story at speed tho’ and I had the odd heavy twang to the wrist from something unseen.. I opted for some nice Fox bouncers which are more comfortable and they lock for the climbing.

Try rigid tho’ it teaches you to ride more carefully and pick your lines as well as losing a kilo. 😀

I ride this but only on local footpaths bridleways around the Village and up Rivington.

Thoughts are, that it is actually ideal for a quick blast in the slop and mud, really enjoy riding it. Surprising really, as it costs CONSIDERABLY less than either my Soul or Turner

My original mtb were rigid…. I fondly remember my splatter paint kona cinder cone bought with apprentice wages !

I ran rigid Ss much of the autumn. Loved it but I lost patience with having (horror) too many bikes (/horror) clutering the place up so have rationalised to a geared hardtail now. If my ss kit fitted it I’d probably still be running ss and a rigid fork until spring. I quite fancy rigid 29tho’.

Ride South Downs and Wiltshire mostly. Lots of chalky clay muck.

Why not finish the job and make it a fixie with just a front brake?

This. I’m riding trails from my own front door which I’d never bothered with on my Nicolai as it would be complete overkill. As a result I’m probably riding 3 or 4 times as often.

funnily enough there are few off this ere forum that have raced fix rigid and kicked the arse of lots of gearie lycra jeyboys and the gnarcore brigade. Some of ’em also ride fixed rigid in the rocky bits of the peak.

Just because you don’t have the strength or skill spin, doesn’t mean it’s not done and done bloody well and very fast! 😀

I think Tazzy, that you have misinterpreted my post. I was not trolling but genuinely suggesting that the OP go fixed, single brake and fully rigid. I ride just such a bike myself and love it.

I really think you’ve confused me with someone else. All I’ve ever posted on 29er or ss threads is the fact that I converted a cotic roadrat to a sort of fixie 29er. No troll just fact.

I used to, but bike rationalisation led to it being sold.best rigid as I’ve owned was dmr trail star with the steel forks off a carrera subway, that thing just wanted to fly
