Finding it increasingly difficult to sell their classic square taper cranksets, the White Industries crew decided to update their crankset design to accommodate modern frames and outboard bottom brackets. Not unlike RaceFace’s Cinch, the MR30 system consists of two sets of crankarms (each available in black or polished finishes) and several bottom bracket spindles to fit most bikes and riders.
Singletrack riders will be most interested in the M30 system, which pairs wider-offset arms with bottom bracket spindles suitable for both 68mm and 73mm frames. Those arms would most likely be mated with one of White’s direct mount narrow/wide chainrings, which are available in sizes ranging from 28-48t (even), though doubles are also offered.
Narrow spindles can be mated with the narrower-offset arms for road use or with large-offset arms to clear cyclocross chainstays. Arm and spindle sets are set to retail for $300 (£230) plus $75 or so for a single chainring. White offer their own bottom brackets for the system, but the arms and spindle will also play nicely with RaceFace Cinch and Rotor bearings.
