X Box 1S – purchase help please

I just plugged my Christmas present to myself and the mini Oddies in. The system update didn’t take long. 15-20mins max on a 30MB line.

The Fifa17 download (not physical media) that came with it will take 3 hours though as it’s 42, yes thats 42, GB.

Game downloads will definetely be a set to download before bed or work and just leave it doing it’s thing type of arrangement!

I wasn’t going to bother, I’ve got 100Mbps at home, but that’s still a few hours without Xmas morning rush. We’ve got a Gigabit line in work, I’ll use that.

This inital update / set-up thing is no joke – unboxed ours about an hour ago, network is runing about 400Mbps today and it’s still taken an hour so far, it was only 400ish MB, don’t know why it’s taking so long but Jr. would have done his nut by now with the excitment of Xmas morning and too much sugar.

3 nights worth of updates for me (8 Mbps ADSL)

1. The device update and accounts
2. FIFA 17 download (46GB!!!)
3. Forza install from disc (> 1 hr) + 7GB update

Probably get a couple more games installed and then get the sellotape out. There will be a lot of peeved kids on xmas day…

This stuff can be done in parallel though. Tip I read for Forza (and potentially the case with other physical media games) is install offline such that it won’t go fishing for the full version online, only the incremental update.

Jeez, good forward planning though!

I’m going to install Forza and all the various Minecraft bits tomorrow and get it wrapped, he’s coming to work with me on Friday so I need it cleared away!
