    Afternoon,

I am slowly getting a stock of wood which will end up becoming bowls and stuff of that ilk. The thing is some of it is rather large and needs cutting but my bow saw isn’t really up to it. Should I get a new bow saw, maybe a bacho or should I get something like this beast… I don’t want a chainsaw either, any other suggestions? .
    Cheers

We got a Zubat for pruning trees on our farm, absolutely awesome bit of kit and cuts with no effort whatsoever!
If you google them you can find suppliers over here.

Used to use them when I worked on trees, and they are awesome, but this is for the workshop not for use in the woods…

A few of us use Silky Gomtaro’s at work, some tried other makes but ended up buying Silky’s. If it requires anything bigger we just get the chainsaws out.

That’s the one I used to own, but some bugger nicked it after I got made redundant… Went to clear out my stuff from the van and it was gone… Gits….

A bit agricultural for my experience 😉 however I’ve just spent some time going through silkysaws’ woodworking saw’s and I use similar Japanese style jobbies for fine joinery/boat work etc. lovely to use and polishes the end grain at the same time 😀

How about a carving arm for a chainsaw? 12″ with a tight radius nose would be nice and versatile for you. Just keep the doors open whilst you’re hacking away 😉 not that I’m entirely sure what you’re trying to achieve, unless it’s slicing the butts and other bits you have, in which case, I’d go chainsaw. But then, I’m a lumberjack 😉 Plaid shirt and everything 8)

I uses to be a lumberjack, and I didn’t care!!! Trained to use upto a 30″ bar no less… Basically I need something to make the big bits of wood into smaller bits but don’t want/need to go the power route as it’s only for a few cuts every so often. If I was going into this in an industrial manner then yes I’d get a small sthil or husq but till I can then it’s manual….

That Lie Nielsen is gorgeous and reminds me of a Disston I used to have before it was nicked.

Tomorrow morning…. Tom @ tamed earth has been great in answering questions and is guiding me round some of the trails near the shop.

I have one of these for wet wood. Incredibly efficient.

    It cut most of this.
