    Preferably reasonably priced too.

35mm seems to be the new 50mm, I can only find the Ragley Stubbing in 40mm for under £50.

I’d prefer 40mm over 35 or 45, otherwise I’d just get another Funnduro.

    have I missed anything?

Thomson Elite X4, although slightly over budget.

Ah, I didn’t realise Thomson had got with the programme on shorter stems now.

    Definitely adding it to shortlist.

Renthal’s too rich for my blood I’m afraid.

Totally missed the price in your post. Love mud one from Alp kit fits your requirements though

Thomson stems seem to often come up on eBay or the classifieds often for sensible money.

Spank Spoon for £32 on CRC.

Big bolts with 5mm allen key heads rather than tiny things that round off. 180g so not overly heavy. Got one the other week as it has a nice rounded stem clamp to it so more friendly to your knees.

The RSP 35mm Trail stem can be had for £35, one came on a bike I purchased and it’s been fine in use. That said, I recently picked up an Alpkit Love Mud stem (not yet used) which seems to be a bargain.

Trying nonk’s 35mm Hope, but thanks for suggestions – if I don’t get on with it then Kore, Spank and Thomson ones look promising.

El Guapo Corto from OnOne were down to £21 this morning. Ordered one this morning. They are no good if you are a bike tart but we are running them on most of our bikes and the quality is first class, as is the weight.

Alpkit does a 40mm stem – the Love Mud Piskie – for £23, which seems like pretty good value. I see someone’s mentioned it already.

I had one on my Transmitter for a while and it seemed fine, though I did have to run a tap through the faceplate screw threads to clean them up, apparently a small number of them had that issue. Not as swanky as a Thomson, but seems to work in a stem-like sort of way.

Recommend what you have time! Spank Oozy 40mm stem is good, bit pricey but has a lovely finish and good build quality.

Answer atac ame. Running one my Switchback with no problems and £40ish from CRC

I once had a syntace megaforce 2 off ebay from the U.S. for just over £50. Stunning piece of kit, lightweight yet really stiff. Only came in 5 degree rise though.
