  • What second-hand 140mm full sus frame?

I’m off to Liguria with Riviera Bike in September and I’m looking for a frame to build up for the trip. Currently have a Cotic Soul with 140mm Revs (which will be the temporary donor bike) and a Yeti ASR-sl.

Have been looking for an 07 Yeti 575 but would like to expand the search.

Budget of about £450 and I’m 5’6″ and 10 stone. I’m more of a ‘wheels on the ground’ type but have just trained with Jedi. I am a bit of a brand whore but will consider a main brand for a better deal / frame. I’m quite light on my bikes and wear stuff out rather than break it.

Any ideas? Saw a Specialised Stumpjumper going cheap but was too big.

    Pace RC405 😉

Seriously though, have a look here:

And email the two chaps who replied on that thread. Both selling Chumba XCL at a decent price.

Heckler would be a good choice, but at 5’6″ I’d be looking at a small or medium. I’m just under 6′ and I found a large to be a bit too, well, large.

I’m biased, but you could easily pick up a 2009 Wolf Ridge for that money.

Quite a few STWers seem to rave about them, myself included.

Scruff – Im 5’6″ and a large would be to big.

Retro – my offer still stands 😀

A Chumba XCL would need to be a ‘small. I ride a ‘small’ Yeti with an effective top tube of 22.4″. Any frame would need to be about that. Medium XCL is 23.5″.

Giant Trance X in Small: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280649342219

127mm/5″ travel but widely felt to feel like more, and said to be perfect with 140mm forks. Replacement bearings easily available, and carbon fibre down tube rock guards are only £25.

    Love mine…!

From your riding style I reckon a stumpy would be a great choice. Trance x might be good but 550 for that frame is a little optimistic IMO. I have a 2009 prophet and it’s great but for ‘wheels on the ground’ and a 10 stone rider I think you’d be better served by something a bit lighter with some more small bump sensitivity which isn’t great on the prophet or heckler (I think). Gary Fisher Roscoe might be a good one. Loved my old Hi-fi (its little brother) and prefered it to my new prophet for a good few months.

yes. i bought a cheaper one without rp23 (sold out now) for 380. VAT (15%) and import duty added 80 quid or so, but it still seemed to be good value.

    Plenty of 2nd hand tho

Mafia – wise words. Sort of why I was looking at the 575. The last 3 trips to Europe I have taken the ASR, which was great for the climbs and most downhill bits, just out of its depth for the really rocky stuff.

    I had an ’07 575 and I wouldn’t get another.

Giant Reign that replaced it was better at everything. Trance X is a good shout for a cheap S/H frame. Don’t pay more than £350. Giant frames are really light and have a nice ride feel.

As above! Cannondale Prophet would make a nice f/s with 140mm!

Cove Hustler worth a look. Available in 15.5-inch (small). Used mine in Morzine and in the Mega.
