I’d urge everyone to spend a good bit of time thoroughly investigating possible routes using the Sustrans online mapping[/url], CycleStreets journey planner and a even bit of scouting about in spare time.
IMO it is well worth taking a route that is 5-10 minutes longer if it means you are out of busy traffic and can have a nice enjoyable relaxing cycle instead of a stressful bum-clencher.
You may not have anything of course. Cycling provision is famously crap in this country (I lived near Manchester for a while and it was hard to get anywhere useful without going on a motorway, so you’re probably stuffed stormtrooper).
All the more reason to become a Sustrans supporter, as they are one of the few charities that actually seem to be making some progress on the ground.
