Less made, more unmade. 8yrs after buying the van, finally stripped it back to start a minor conversion.

Warning, not up to the impressive standards displayed on this thread.

Made a mobile raised bed / planter out of leftover bits of 6×2 and 4×2. Lined with dpm, made a loads of holes in the bottom and then lined the bottom with weed barrier to stop the dirt and compost mix falling out.

It’s only for herbs that I use a lot in cooking and a lettuce in the centre. I need to hide the uneven boards used for the bottom, as it is playing havoc with my ocd. Really handy it being moveable.

It’s phase #1 in getting my bbq area a bit nicer.

Also following on from my utility room worktop repair thread, this was a test to see how yacht varnish came out. Have to say very impressed, will be using it to refurb the oak worktop.

Now I just have to figure out how to stop the 11 month puppy from digging up and eating the herbs.

Spot of dry stone walling practice before I have to face up a retaining wall. Not bad considering it’s the scraps from another wall that’s been demoilseed and rebuilt with the good bits

    (Not finished BTW! )

Emptying the freezer before this year’s crop starts yields tasty results.

Like the planter. Only suggestion for puppy prevention is a chicken wire fence. Works to keep pidgeons and cats off my peas.

After our success in first lockdown we put up a new fence between us and the neighbours. It was scheduled to be complete the week of May Day Bank Holiday but Wickes fouled up the post order and we had to get more from the local supplier on the Thursday.

As it was with rusty chainlink and concrete posts that were badly spalled in places.

We removed the chainlink and skip full of garden waste then employed a local chap to lift out the old fenceposts (my back at 59 will not tolerate 100kg post lifts anymore)

Posts in and first run of fencing 2/3 complete. A delay due to a design change Saturday afternoon after all the local Durapost suppliers were shut.

Almost complete, sliding dog gate (!) so the pooches can socialise (the design change) not installed and section of angled fence not cut alongside it.

Final pic once the last cut is completed and the sliding panel is firmly in place. Herself got some arty resin tree thing to fill the gap filled with short lengths of featheredge.

The coffee table I made is fine but quite large and difficult to reach from the armchair. The trouble is that there is not really space for a table next to the main armchair used because of a second ‘occasional chair’. No idea why we can’t just move that but there must be reasons.

Anyway, this morning I decided to make a narrow table for the gap between the chairs that can hold a glass and bowl of nuts while still fitting. Also added a wine bottle steady storage to balance out the design.

Not finished as it only has the first coat of varnish but pleased how far I got in a day. I have some video of me making it so might make a new “Are you bored enough” video if anyone is bored enough to want one.

Neither the time nor available space to work on anything much, and not much inclination, tbh, but we were given Friday off, those whose shift patterns covered the weekend, and after prevaricating over whether to go out somewhere because the weather looked really iffy, I went over to Lacock and had a walk out of the village then followed the river back. Partway round there’s a convenient fallen tree trunk that’s just right to sit on for a drink and a snack, but there’s nowhere to put an insulated drink bottle without it falling over. So I made a drink holder.

The wood is very soft, five minutes with my Opinel pocket knife, and a convenient place to put my bottle was had. 😎

I took down my son’s treehouse after 10 years of it being disused.

Knocked up a BBQ shelter with the reclaimed timber.

Mrs ColP then decided that she wanted an Ooni so I knocked together a little house for that out of some spare ply I had, and attached it to the side of the BBQ shelter.

Wish I’d known about the Ooni before doing the BBQ shelter as I’d have done it all together.

Good impro and kudos for the recycling bit won’t rain runoff the BBQ house roof on to the ooni roof and then back onto BBQ?

A little project on the go to make an adapter to use an Ortlieb 7l bar bag on my Brompton. Annoyingly the Ortlieb Mini O bags were discontinued last year and are now going for over £300 on eBay! 🙈

So I bought an alloy adapter plate off Amazon and a spare Rixen Kaul bracket I could adapt. A piece of 5mm thick aluminium off cut drilled out and fixed the plate onto.

@kimura54321 very nice work on that. I’ve used the Brompton ortlieb bag on my Brompton for years, brilliant bits of kit for commuting in all weathers. Mine isn’t the mini bag (annoyingly now they are worth so much !)

    @walowiz – Thanks!

The regular sized ones go for a fair whack as well to be fair just not over four times the price second hand…

Agreed on Ortlieb being great, they are just bomb proof and kind of set the standard for me. I have a smart looking black Caradice Stockport bag to use in the office, but wanted a smaller one when not commuting which I though would be simpler than it was 😂

The Ortlieb adapter is simnilar to something I made recently for an Alpkit Gravel bag. A bit of plywood to carry the Klickfix back plate means the bag can be clicked on and off easily for popping into shops etc, and avoids having to use the annoying velcro straps which inevitably cause cable rub and wear patches.

A friend of mine very sadly lost her dad fairly recently and asked if I’d make a box for his ashes for home.
The mountain scene on top was a favourite place of his and the text holds special meaning.

Tiger (Brown) Oak, European Oak and resin.

The engraving was hand cut, as in, I handed it to someone with a cnc router, and there is an end-grain border inlay to the top.

7 points are available if you can identify the mountain scene.

The kids kept losing things under the gaps in the radiator cover. Stuck a bit of floorboard behind to stop it. So simple, no idea why it didn’t occur to me sooner.

Mind and drill some holes in them so the convection still works come winter 😉

With Marylyn restricted to the house and the weather being so hot, I have spent some time in the garage playing with my band saw.

I present 5 bandsaw boxes of various designs, a mobile phone desk tidy and a school of fish, all stood on my Motor Sport inspired coffee table.

Too much time on my hands?

For ages i’ve wanted to add a fan to the TV cabinet the Xbox sits in (the series X gets PROPER hot…and the warm air just sits in teh cabinet…)
So I got a 15 quid USB powered fan to run off the X box…

    The ‘pre’ photo..

And after taking the jigsaw to the cabinet!

It has an inline off-L-M-H switch as the Xbox USB is always on..
But it works a treat and really vents out all the hot air!

I was asked if I could design a solution to address poor acoustics in a video meeting room in some offices of a local gaming company.
The building itself is a beautiful converted barn called the River Studio and is cited a stones throw from the River Avon as it runs through Warwickshire.

The design I came up with took the profile of the actual river nearby (with a little artistic license) and I scaled and arranged it so that it would run across walls and ceiling. Cut by cnc from a layer of 6mm mdf with a 6mm ‘bank’, and once filled with preserved acoustic moss, would help to improve the sound quality and lessen the echo in the room.
    Hard to photograph! It’s massive!

It took me a solid week sticking the moss to the boards including the two scorcher days!
I hate moss now and if I ever see any in the wild I’m going to stamp on it 😂

Importantly, it’s improved the acoustics in that room massively..👌

So, a bit of moss-fettle improved the amplification in the room?

Very nice Kayak. But arent you going to get an increase in insects

No. Seems it’s not a thing. It’s used extensively in posh hotels etc all over the world. It’s also anti-static and so doesn’t attract much dust like other surfaces might.

    This from the manufacturers-

Do moss walls attract bugs and insects?

No. Moss walls do not attract bugs. Insects are attracted to the moisture and soil in plants. Preserved moss walls do not have any kind of soil and they don’t need any water.
    .
Unlike artificial plants, moss walls do not attract dust. Moss walls not only require no maintenance, but they do not have static electricity, so dust particles hardly cling to the moss.

I have been trying to use a palette knife and am sort of happy with the result. Just can’t quite decide if the painting is finished or if I need to add ‘something’
