Basically have had worsening wrist pain down the Ulnar side where it connects to my hand. After punching a box full of Urine Bottles that was about to land on my head this was first week of November. So nothing massively heavy. I do have pretty skinny wrists and I did break it back in 2006.
pain worsening, no bruising, pain when turning from palm down to up and any twisting motion like using a screwdriver and anything heavier than a bottle of Irn Bru.
Paracetamol and Ibuprofen twice a day numbs it.
Borrowed the wife’s Splint she had from when she broke her scaphoid in 2021 and that seems to help.
Visit the Gp, Grin and Bear it or Visit Urgent Care?
I take it Cyclings out for a while?

Sounds like you’ve cracked something to me (not a doctor). I’d get it checked out. The NHS walk-in centre near me has an X-ray which you can get referred to by your GP, is there something like that for you to avoid sitting for a week in the A&E waiting room?

Phone NHS24 and they’ll probably send you to a minor injuries for an X Ray.

Punching a box of piss bottles?

    this needs more context.

May I suggest a different reason if/when you get it x-rayed

Does it hurt when you press on the area your scaphoid is?  how about pressing and holding whilst flexing / rotating the wrist?

I busted my scaphoid (well both of them) about 15 years ago, they are a bugger to heal and you can have complications if they don’t heal right – something to do with the poor blood supply to the area.  I think I was in a cast for close to 3 months

At my walk in centre, you can walk in (obvs) and get triaged and have an X-ray on the spot without a GP referral, Its great (unless you miss the cut off for X-rays and have to come back the next morning).

Yeah was cleaning Commode knelt down. Could hear poorly stacked Urine bottle box falling so swung arm to stop box clattering me in the face. Might have been the box or might have been the shelf can’t remember.
And doesn’t seem to be scaphoid area seems to be where wrist where it bends down from pinky.

Could be anything and worth checking out. After a crash in early November, it’s taken me 3 weeks to find out I’ve broken my wrists.

    Bear with me…

Flex your wrist forward and down as far as it will go with fingers straight, then try moving your little finger independently. Does it hurt like ****?

I’ve no idea what it is but I had a big(ish) crash at the start of October. I was convinced something was broken. X-ray showed no fracture, but it has been very painful since. Turning a door knob has been nigh on impossible. As has unscrewing drinks bottle tops. Any twisting of the hand or movement of fingers 4 and/or 5 apart from the others is painful.

I think I would rather have had a break as that would have been a clear diagnosis. As it is, I’ve no idea if I’ve tweaked tendons, tweaked ligaments, done nerve damage or a combination thereof.

I’m thinking of asking to see a specialist. It has been nearly 9 weeks – a broken bone would probably not have been any worse.

Totally correct. The notoriously poor blood supply to the scaphoid means longer to heal. They are often pinned for this reason.

About an hour and a half away. I’m going give it a bit longer so I’m out of the kind of time window I think is reasonable (I.e about 12 weeks) for an injury.

I might PM you if I’m still struggling then.

    The offer is appreciated.

Was your hand open or closed when fending off the bottles?  Scaphoid is often associated with an impact to the palm, like putting a hand out in a fall.  In my case, it was a motorbike accident.  The pain twisting and gripping sounds like what I recall.   In my case it wasn’t visible on x-ray until several days after the accident.  If your accident was back in November then hopefully an x-ray will show if there’s a problem there.  Definitely worth getting it checked out properly.

Technique is everything with stuff like this. This is a drill I practice daily.

Palm up with fist lightly clench so it bent my hand backwards like a fall.

Feels like it’s coming out of joint down Ulnar side. No bruising. Stuck a splint on. which seems to help. Can move fingers fine, twisting palm up hurts, flexing hurts.

Gonna Bob to Urgent Care on Monday.

Pain has eased with splint though. Was given to the Wife when she broke her scaphoid once the cast came off.
