My left (rear) foot has rubbed a patch of paint off the rear triangle of my frame. Aesthetically this doesn’t bother me but I’ve just read in MBR that it could wear a hole thru the aluminium! Is this really possible and will heli tape protect it?

    Cheers

Eventually, if you keep doing it then you could. You’d have to try very hard, and be bloody unlucky though.

Helicopter tape will help, but that’s softer than alu – so you’ll wear through that too.

Yes but when it does wear through you can just replace it – the heli tape not the chainstay 🙂

I had some wear on the chainstay on my commuter, got a chainstay protector made to a custom size to cover it and its been fine for the past year.

Cheers. Hadn’t thought of a protector I’ll whack a bit of inner tube on to match the other side .
