I find this odd, that despite the batch numbers showing the 5610U is a ’22 watch and the 6900 a ’23 watch so both relatively modern, the 5610u still has that “fuzzy” look LCD I certainly lights and the 6900 is much more crisp.   You would have through the tech is much the same, but maybe its not so for the modules.

Box and papers are part of the value of the watch for most afficionados. I’d keep the watch if they further discounted by the effect of losing them. The fact they’ve discounted it already is irrelevant as it wasn’t sold as ‘discounted due to missing box/papers’ was it?

That was exactly my point when I spoke to them and they’ve now apparently ordered all the missing items and will forward when they arrive.  To be fair they didn’t kick up a fuss or try to suggest it was cheap because of…. I shall wait and see what arrives (or not) but one thing I’ve decided not to do is let it lie, I can be as stubborn as the next man when it come to petty arguments!

My Reverso has stopped…. I am hoping I am just unlucky and it’s the battery. The watch registered fine on the JLC website and Reverso are pretty hard to fake generally (complicated case) but still, slightly bricking it. Plus point is it still looks nice, even when the time is wrong!

Dont you work at CERN or somesuch establishment? Maybe time is running REALLY slowly due to proximity to an artificial black hole…. 😀

Good luck with the Reverso. I would expect something simple especially if provenance checked out.

However, maybe its punishing you for not wearing it and putting it in the front basket of your bicycle…..

I’m on leave in Blighty, so I don’t have a spare reactor to drop in! Normally I’m happy changing batteries but a Reverso case…. nah. It has a calibre 608, super simple and even in worse case it’s not too bad. All relative though as I already emptied my bank account to get it! I was going to take it on my dad’s boat this weekend, and not even in a waterproof basket 😀

That Bell & Ross looks really uncomfortable on the wrist.

Unlike my Scurfa Diver One which I’ve just put on a Zuludiver HydraRib. It looks ace and is really comfy.

I think the colour is perfect for the watch face / bezel.

That Seiko is brilliant for the money. Sapphire, solar powered, day/date and 100 m water resist.

Speaking of Zuludiver, anyone ordered an Octopod strap/buckle?  My interest is piqued as I like the looks of a nato on some watches but also like a deployment.  Reviews seem mostly good, alternative straps look good value once buckle bought.

I have an Octopod. I like it. Well made, looks good. And you will buy multiple straps if you buy the buckle.

The new buckle is slightly smaller which is probably even better.

There are two basic straps (in a myriad of colours) – one is totally stretch-free (HydraRib) and the other very slightly stretchy (non-HydraRib).   I prefer the very slightly stretchy one.

Random question: what size (fatness) spring bars do Rolex use on their recent sports watches? I’ve put my Explorer 39mm on a canvas strap, using some cheapy spring bars for now, and they’re noticeably thinner at the pin ends (ie where they go into the case) and wobble about.

It looks like the thickness of the Rolex spring bar at its middle isn’t very different from others, but its ends are really fat and fill the holes in the case. So what kind/ dimensions of spring bar are they and where’s good for spares?

Doesn’t wear that big, only 1mm more than the Citizen here and way smaller than my big G-shock (orange) or Suunto Core

Speedy now has proper Omega leather and deployant.  Not cheap and not worth the money I paid either but nice not to be on the bracelet.  Plus I must have spent about £100 on cheap straps that were no good 😂

That does look good,  but the price of oem straps is ridiculous. I put a £20ish snide deployant and £15ish sailcloth on my seamaster as I couldn’t stomach the oem costs.

I paid £350 as  unused 2nd hand in packaging.  Yeah £500 retail. I got my Seamaster rubber deployant for cost when I bought the watch. That was £210

It does look good,  it’ll be well made and the leather will be good.  If you look after it then it will last well.   That means don’t neglect the leather. It needs moisturising or conditioner to keep it supple and strong, it needs to be allowed to dry out after getting wet or sweaty and it occasionally needs a good clean or cleanse to get the grime out the pores of the leather to allow it to dry out after it gets wet,  and allow fresh conditioner in.

I am a sweaty oik and hard on leather straps…. I’d cry if I killed an oem strap s quickly as I’m able to.

I bought a PVD Octopod and a couple of straps to go on my Scurfa Diver One PVD. I think I got one of the early ones that need a firm push but I really liked it. That’s in past tense as it’s off the watch right now as the deployant is pretty bulky for a desk diver, it wasn’t too comfortable typing for long periods with it. I also wanted a different strap for a change and it’s a bit of a faff to put back on.

Basically it’s better as a fit and forget strap, if you regularly change straps it might annoy you.

Another option for a comfortable elastic NATO is a Froskemann strap. I’ve got one and really like it. It’s basically a sorted Marine Nationale strap and buckle.

Cork strap anyone? Very light and comfortable as a material. Nice marble effect on this one acquired from the bay at 15 quid for standard buckle and strap tho’ much more can be paid if desired

It is but I’ve decided against it for now, at least in black. Watched all of the videos I could find. The flat crystal just seems too reflective for my liking, and really obscures the dial. I am being incredibly picky given the price. There are green and blue versions which I might consider instead.

I’ve been a bit of a lurker on this thread so figured it was time I contributed something.

All of these have some sentimental value so will be staying with me forever. From left to right

• Tag Monaco – Inherited when my Dad passed away last year
• Tag Carerra – Bought for me by my lovely wife as an engagement watch
• Omega Seamaster Quartz – My grandad got this as a long service watch from the factory he worked at, I inherited it when he passed away (my Dad used some of his inheritance to buy the Monaco)
• A Tissot from the late 90s – my 18th birthday watch from my parents
• A random wooden watch bought as an anniversary gift and laser engraved on the side.

Aside from these I also have a G-Shock. DW5600 solar which had stood up to years of abuse, a Garmin which is now what I wear most days and somewhere an Animal watch from the early to mid 90s. Unfortunately most of them need batteries with the exception of the automatics.

@walowiz interestingly I always wanted a Monaco too but tried one on when shopping for my engagement watch and decided it didn’t suit my small wrists and felt a bit awkward. I ended up going for the fairly straight forward Carrera. However, since this one has been in my possession I’ve actually worn it a fair bit and got used to how it feels. I still prefer my Carrera but I don’t dislike it as much as I did initially. I think the shape, being different to most watches, can take some getting used to

Obviously, the Mido has a Patek Nautilus feel, but for me it has more of a 70s vibe (and doesn’t cost as much as a small house).

I like those Mido’s:  not enough to buy one I don’t think, but I like the style.  I also found myself liking an Hermes H08 as well, but at a considerably different price point!
