    Hey the year’s not over!

    Actually vaguely seriously:

We think we already have had COVID – in February.

They’re hoping that vaccine generated immunity may last a year or two, but immunity from actually having had the disease is likely to be less. I think I had it end of march fwiw and may have been a bit complacent subsequently. Now’s the time to get less complacent.

I’m just sorry that I missed the opportunity to demonstrate unequivocally that I’m a weapons-grade fin de cloche by bemoaning my terrible misfortune.

Well, you sure seized the chance today!

Well, here’s a perfect cause to donate 8 weeks worth of lift pass fees:

    They’ll be VERY GRATEFUL.

Well, Mr Rees-Mogg is complaining about this… claiming it is virtue signalling. If feeding kids is virtue signalling… complaining about others feeding kids is what… signalling that you think the poor should be left to go hungry?

I came here to post support for thegeneralist… I mean we’re all in our own bubbles this year, not fully aware of all the real shit going on for others, so consider our own “sacrifices” to be important, even when relatively they… really are not

I’m genuinely not sure if this is sarcasm or not! But If not, bubble or not, who the hell isn’t fully aware of all the ‘real shit’ that is going on for others at the moment. there is never ending news of deaths, mass unemployment, disruption to pretty much every part of life as we know it…

who the hell isn’t fully aware

Most of us, to different degrees. There’s always more to learn… some of the things I’ve heard for the first time this week, about the (incomplete) recovery from the illness that many people have gone through this year… is just horrific, the type of thing I wouldn’t even wish to share with adults on a forum like this. And even though I know that more people have lost their jobs in the last month than any month in history… I can not be fully aware of the reality of that in the same way as someone else suddenly discovering that their income has stopped, their back pay not to be paid, and the number of new jobs in their sector is all but zero. Empathy when we’re all trying to keep apart from each other can go missing. And most of us, to some degree, want to be more ignorant of the effects of this year than ICU staff, for example, are… to help us keep calm and help us keep on keeping on.

    @ thegeneralist

Not sure if trolling or serious and I can normally ignore this kind of post but sadly this has struck a nerve with me so I’m going to bite on this occasion.

Whilst I sympathise with your interrupted Christmas plans believe me several people are in a whole lot worse position than yourself this year. Christmas is obviously an important time to many people and 2020 has clearly not been a good one, how many people have lost jobs, how many families have lost loved ones, how many people feeling that they are unable to cope anymore and are looking to end it all ?

Maybe it was just a tongue in cheek thing, in which case good one, mission accomplished, many feathers ruffled maybe an innocent post and you never expected some of the replies you got but if not I think you need to step back and reconsider your life problems.

I’m not trying to play woe is me top trumps here and I’m not looking for sympathy either but there is currently a team of 24 dedicated specialist doctors, nurses and carers trying to keep my terminally ill wife alive until Christmas day !

Sorry for my little rant, I’m clearly a bit over sensitive right now and have been hovering over the submit button trying to decide whether to post or just move on but hopefully you can understand my lack of compassion for your problems. Maybe you just needed one of these 😉 at the end.

Wishing everybody a Happy Christmas, hope you all get through it safe and well whatever your personal circumstances.

Isn’t it just. I was about to mention the SH thread. Frankly after a week of dealing with entitled little idiots stuff like this leaves me cold. As I have said to all my staff, being alive and being employed and paid are two major bonuses this year, the rest is detail.

    OK -Full Disclosure.

    ****************””*”””””***

This was not a troll, it was a genuine post. But not by me. @Kateezdad2 and @tomhoward have nailed it. My OP, and all my subsequent replies were taken [almost] verbatim from someone else’s thread on snowheads.

I thought the original post on SH was really weird, and pretty much said so on that thread. The general replies were very much in support of the OP. I wasn’t particularly surprised by this TBH, but was interested to get some other opinions, so I reposted it on here.

I’ve often been struck in the past by the different vibe on different forums. IMHO snowheads is populated by a subset of very entitled smug people. On STW people tend not to be too blatant about their boasting, and people rip the piss if they cross the line. Snowheads has a completely different clientele and standard response.
I was appalled by the OP’s view that he was somehow doing something laudable and noteworthy by not going to his chalet for Christmas. Also amazed by his humblebragging that nobody called out. The consensus on there seems to be that he was indeed noble.

Snowheads forum is currently rammed with posts about people desperately trying to justify and maintain their precious ski holiday. STW has a fair few threads with people agonising about whether they can go out of county for a three hour ride this weekend.

The difference in attitude, perspective…..and dare I say it, level of entitlement is pretty stark.

The replies on here have restored my faith. Lots of piss taking, a few direct snipe, and loads of people politely and patiently explaining why my OP was out if order.

Yes. I wanted to know what a different slice of people thought. And rather that asking people to review it I realised it would just be far more accurate to post it vanilla.

We prefer to bugger off to the Canaries for a warm fortnight at Christmas to avoid all the family shenanigans .Although that’s up the shitter this year, We can, of course, do our bit by avoiding them by staying at home under the banner that we “are doing the right thing”. 😉

But, thegeneralist, I’ve said this before on other threads… this is not a good subject to play games with, or deliberately evoke reactions about… a lot of people here are recovering, or have lost people.
