    OP

What was the aim of the post?

Hoping that others would agree with you, saying you made the right decision?

I hope it was trolling because that’s the only real reason i can see as a point for a post.

why the horrible replies? Just no need for them at all.

I think that we will try for some February skiing. I am staring at our season passes and banging my head slowly and rhythmically against the table.

OP don’t be too sad ,you still have that $10,000 that you scammed off duncancallum.

Silver linings and all that 😉 🙂

I think there is quite a lot of negativity to your post as many, many people are having to sacrifice a lot more than a ski holiday this christmas….

I think it’s because you misjudged the mood of many OP. At least you are just staring at ski passes as opposed to a letter informing you you’ve lost your job, or are sat at the kitchen table realising a loved one that passed away this year due to Covid won’t be joining you, or you are just not going to see loved ones due to the pandemic.

Stupid thing to do really, buying season passes to a ski area, when its been proven ski resorts greatly accelerated the spread around mainland Europe and the UK
But we are missing out on our holibobs and white Xmas for the first time in years. Yep, and there are going to be 70,000 empty chairs round dinner tables as the dead and dieing cant make it this year unfortunately, they hope you get to ski in Feb tho

Well, here’s a perfect cause to donate 8 weeks worth of lift pass fees:

Why on earth would you buy Season passes already?

It’s not like season passes sell out, why did you not just wait.

In fact…. I think that was a step too far in the Troll.

Only a complete numpty would have bought multiple Season Passes in advance for 2020/2021 given the last ten months of chaos.

Remember a few short months ago the message was “be kind”. Amazing how quickly that’s been forgotten.

Some people on here will always find the negative with everything. Some are even bitter at others’ success and need to get a life.

Perspective? Being sad about not being able to go skiing in Valias vs dead people, jobless people having to choose between food, rent or heat. Kids in england being fed by unicef. Kids in UK who don’t have a bed to sleep in (this being a first world country n all)
People who quite literally have not touched another human being in nearly a year now being told to rethink spending Christmas with another human being.

confirmed in my mind that we probably were doing the right thing in not going.

Your self sacrifice will be noted in despatches. Hopefully it won’t get lost in all the mentions of poorly paid people who worked through the pandemic at great personal risk to themselves and their families (as if they had a choice!)
Dunno about right choice. Go with that if it makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. I’d say only choice unless you are a complete sociopath. Or Dominic Cummings. How’s your eyesight?

Listening to the Today programme this morning and hearing the personal account of amputations and sight loss was upsetting and confirmed in my mind that we probably were doing the right thing in not going.

    Probably? Just probably?

Some people on here will always find the negative with everything. Some are even bitter at others’ success and need to get a life.

No that’s not it at all. The issue they have is that thousands of people are dying, millions are suffering hardship, practically no-one is able to enjoy Christmas as they’d like, with many spending it alone..

And then some insensitive clown come on here and complains that they’ll be missing their annual jaunt to the their second home in the Swiss alps…boo fing hoo

Why on earth did you think the response would be any different than it’s been..Are you seriously that out of touch with what’s been going on in the lives of most of the population over the past 9 months?

Not at all. Very happy you are so successful. How do you plan on using your good fortune to help others? It isn’t about what you’ve got, its about what you do with it.

I was thinking much the same as the OP – but then I remembered how much more fun than skiing it would be to stay in old Blighty and circle “must watch” Christmas programs in the Radio Times.

And I also remembered we have no money to our name, too!

    Sprout, anyone?

I came here to post support for thegeneralist… I mean we’re all in our own bubbles this year, not fully aware of all the real shit going on for others, so consider our own “sacrifices” to be important, even when relatively they… really are not… but then I saw Ransos’ picture… and it now all seems a bit ridiculous. Still chuckling now. Thanks Ransos. Needed that.

    Perspective?

    Quite.

I’m sure that every single person reading this has suffered to various degrees over the last year and we have all had to make sacrifices.

But complaining that you can’t spend two months of the year dossing about on a ski resort in your second home like you’ve done every year for the last two decades, then presenting it as a virtue signalling exercise that you’re sacking it this year because it “feels wrong” IN THE MIDDLE OF A GLOBAL $%^&ING PANDEMIC WHICH IS KILLING PEOPLE, I’m sorry but you’d have to be weapons-grade naive to think that everyone was going to read the OP and go “oh you poor thing, good on you, at least there isn’t a caviar shortage yet.”

I might take the piss for comedy value but I’m not judging anyone, it’s been challenging for all of us. But I am kinda bristling that you seemingly expected a pat on the back for your sacrifice.

I wasn’t sure if the OP was trolling or not. Now I am.

Anyway, I had to cancel my skiing holiday at Easter this year for obvious reasons. I’m just sorry that I missed the opportunity to demonstrate unequivocally that I’m a weapons-grade fin de cloche by bemoaning my terrible misfortune.

I happen to know a guy who has a shack on a hill in need of upgrading. Are you willing to travel to Switzerland?
