Just spotted that ALDI are doing a Thursday special buy Ultrasonic Cleaner for £17.50.

I know its for jewellery, but has anyone tried one, to clean a bike chain?

    What happened? 😉

and some people like to keep things clean, one of the benifits is they last longer. plus you can clean other things in it as well

Yes, I understand the point of ultrasonic cleaners. 🙂 I question the point of how well a £17.50 one will in fact clean a bike chain, bearing in mind that I could probably get one just as clean with a 99p bottle of white spirits, and a bit of a shake.

nickc – you obviously don’t understand the STW attitude to things – why spend £2000 on a bike when a £500 one would do quite nicely? Why spend a quid on some white spirits when you can buy a GADGET to do it? And you can do something else whilst it’s buzzing away….

I use one, have done for a few years. It cleans far better than any ‘manual’ technique and all it takes is a couple of button presses. More effective and easier, call me lazy but thats justification enough.

I started the first thread. They are fab. Glow blue as they vibrate, chains, headsets, bottom brackets and most of a cassette can be cleaned spotless with a press of a button whilst you crack open the post ride beer.
