Can anyone please recommend me some tyres for commuting on my 29er. My commute is a combination of roads and cycle paths with a bit of dirt/grass. It a bit of a slog with my current xc tyres so thinking of changing them!

Fit some 700c gravel tyres? People seem to regularly fit 33mm cx tyres to 29er rims so you could easily fit something in the 35-40mm range I guess

I’ve just bought some extra 29er wheels so I can switch my bike between commuter mode and MTB mode as required.

The commuter wheels have 38mm 700c Vittoria Voyager Hyper tyres (tubeless) which are very fast indeed – I’d definitely recommend them, as long as you’re not going to be cornering in mud on a regular basis.

I’m a long term fan of the schwalbe landcruiser for commuting.  rolls well on tarmac with a solid centre tread, nobbles on the sides for grip when venturing off road. reasonably puncture resistant and cheap too.

29er versions come in 1.6 and 1.75″ so big enough to maintain some of that comfort you’ll be used to with the XC tyres

got some schwalbe g-one for my 29er commuter, roll fast on the road, plenty of volume for the state of the roads, also do some light off road on them, all good so far

Thanks for the replies, might try the G-ones out as they come in 2.35 widths…

Kojaks are good if you want a slick- they’re not a “commuter tyre”, they’re a big fat road tyre.

I’m back on 38mm Marathon Cross on my Wazoo road set, very durable all rounders. My 2.35″ G-One Speeds are fun, but they aren’t going to last anywhere near as long.

Marathon Supreme (they max out at 1.6 / 700×40)

I do like the g ones but as said they aren’t the hardest wearing  and the tubeless ones don’t always come in at sensible money but are fast an versatile

I’ve got some Vittoria Adventure Trail II TNT from Planet X at 15 quid a throw foldable and tubeless ready to have a play which look pretty nice  for the money.

The price of the G-ones are definitely a down point, i’ll take a look at the other suggestions. I want to run tubeless too..

unless you search for “29”, then they go up to 2.0!

    I’d get them.

I’m running Schwalbe Marathon Almotion 2.1″ on my 29 commuter.

Not the lightest, but fast rolling and a cinch to setup tubeless.
