tubeless noob…when to replace sealant

Gave tubeless a go last year…been fine since. Every 6 months or so I’ve topped up the sealant with fresh stuff via the syringe through the valve method, so done this a couple of times now so the tyres currently contain three lots worth of sealant including the initial lot, and probably worth a fresh top up soon so wondering if I should take the tyre off and clear out all the stuff I’ve put in there already? Or just keep going? Ta.

I’ve always just left it until I’ve had to take the tyre off because its worn. So maybe half a year or less depending on the amount of riding that gets done.

Over summer if your bikes stored somewhere warm it will obviously dry out quicker. Easy way to tell is take the wheel off and give it a shake, if you can’t hear the sealant it’s time for more.

You would be better off popping the tyre off the bead and checking on the sealant that is in there before just topping up. If they is still a decent fluid amount and no rubber balls formed then just leave it. At the moment you are just adding weight for no real reason.
If I’ve not had to remove the tyre I check every 6 months if it does need fresh sealant I take the tyre off flip it inside out give it a wipe check for damage remove thorns etc and refit and fresh sealant in.

Ya. I’llnpop The tyre off then….they’re just such a pig to get back on I was not keen to do it unless I had to, but sounds they’re due a look-see. I’ve done naf all riding on the MTB since about November last year, been on the road bike more over the winter.

Wheel off and shake it. If you can hear it sloshing it’s fine. If it’s quiet, it’s not. If it rattles, you’ve got a booger. Then it’s time to dismount the tyre, remove thorns, clean it out and start again.

If a bike with tubeless doesn’t get ridden for a while I make a point of spinning the wheels at least once a week to stop the jiz pooling in the bottom. Don’t know the science but seems like a good idea to me.
