Trek Slash gen 5 (2021-22?) sizing

Wondering on the sizing of the above? Model version before the new one with idler.

I am 179cm tall, so right on the size boundary of ML and L. The ML is about 15mm longer reach and the L is around 30mm than my current bike. Current bike is pretty old style geometry, pre LLS. Also jumping from 27.5 to 29 wheels.

So experiences please? Would I find the large a bit of a massive change? Thanks

I’ve got friend with both the ML and L, and I’ve ridden both of them to test for sizing.

I’m 5ft 8in on a good day and the ML would have been the one for me as an all-rounder. But I could manage on the L. I do like a longer bike though.

I’d suspect you’d want the L unless you’re particularly riding a lot of tight trails.

Really great bikes, only thing to watch for it whether the max seatpost insertion is enough for your needs.

NP, might be useful to get a go on a friend’s bike that has a similar reach figure?

Though you’d have to factor in the inevitable “getting used to” period for any longer bike.

I’ve tried a mates which is a large, i’m 6’0 and i’m pretty happy with his. He had a Remedy in a ML and i felt that was too small for me.

If you’re anywhere near Manchester/ Peak then you could try my son’s ML on a ride.

In terms of sizing, it sounds like an ML would be best. He was around 178 when we bought it and was clear he didn’t want the L, despite me wanting him to for obvious reasons.

I’m six foot and Defo find the ML too small. I have used it on the occasional Lakes ride and it wasn’t too bad…. But I’d Defo want the L at my size

I’m 178cm and I have a Slash in ML. I was humming and hawing between ML and L… went for the ML as I was upgrading from a very short (old) Pivot and the ML gave me a shorter seat tube but a shorter dropper out of the box, which would still let me fit the MacRide (kids bike seat).

I’m in the North East if you want a spin. Will be at Hamsterley on Sunday but if you stand in one spot at Hammers a Slash will ride past you sooner or later.

Definitely glad I didn’t go bigger – it’s a big ol bike.

Down south sadly! Complete overkill for most of my riding but need something for bigger days.

I’m 5’7’’ and ride the M/L. It’s possible that I have relatively long legs for my size as I manage fine with a 170mm dropper in. I wouldn’t want it any smaller.

I imagine you would be fine on either. They aren’t particularly long bikes. Not brilliant for seatpost insertion though.

I have a 2022 Slash 8 and chose a ML. I’m 5’10 with a longish inside leg at 34. Run a 200mm OneUp dropper no bother. The bike is not super long but plenty stable for me. Could maybe have gone for a large but tbh I’ve never felt lacking in stability down DH trails and the Golfie steep gnarr etc. Impressed with it tbh. Great bike 👍

If you’re anywhere near Kingston Balfes had a large in the window yesterday. Big saving on it too.
