What’s not to like

This must be increasing the number of transport journeys.

I read once that there is some logic behind it (automated allocation of what goes on each wagon, easier packing, easier to find a standard size box than a small package etc)

That’s not recycled! It’s fresh out of a box folding machine!

There’s no logic behind that when most amazon stuff comes in a flat cardboard pouch, someone has chucked it on the wrong machine (or perhaps the seller has entered the wrong dimensions so it goes to the wrong packing line?)

generally I find they are pretty good, the cardboard sleeves which fit through a normal letter box must save the drivers hours of bell ringing a day.

Another one who’s in the Amazon are pretty decent at packaging camp.

I reuse their boxes to pack jobs in at work. Customers don’t mind and I can’t recall the last time I saw any plastic packaging.

They stopped putting receipts in a long time ago too and I can’t recall the last spam leaflets in their packaging.

Surprised your batteries weren’t in a cardboard sleeve though.

I’m not convinced that they calculate the optimal packing capacity of an imported Mitsubishi Elgrand TBH, but as far as businesses that specialise in posting stuff I think there are worse offenders than Amazon. I ordered a cassette from SigmaSports & the actual SRAM cardboard box weighted more that the Rival Cassette which it contained, which was all inside another box.

I order them from trusted sellers on eBay (established power pack /battery sellers with additional eBay shopfronts) and they always come in packaging that fits through the letter box.

I ordered 3 Xmas presents from Amazon the other day: “Reduce the number of deliveries by selecting Amazon Delivery Day!” cool, get them all delivered on Tuesday. But I could only change 2 of them, one of the items was stuck on next day delivery and couldn’t be scheduled with the other 2. Bit silly I thought.

Maybe 3rd party suppliers don’t upload the dimensions of the item properly or something?

From my own recent experience cardboard sleeves are getting held up in the post. Packages are getting through.

got to be something like this. Amazon’s operation is so efficient in most other areas and they are as good if not better than other companies with regards to packaging IME… like if a product comes in a sturdy box already, that IS the shipping box, they won’t double box it. Also, all their own-brand stuff is just packaged in cardboard and completely plastic free now, I think.

There is a place my wife has to buy from occasionally (specialist horse food additive or something) and they still use polystyrene shells! Really wierd seeing that now and it takes up most of a 30l bin bag. Really hate ordering from them.

A couple of others use starch packing chips, they are meant to be dissolved in a bucket of water but they do needed a good stir the following day and I gave up. Presumably doesn’t make much difference as it all goes to incineration anyway…
