The job interview tomorrow…

This is the one… a real job for life (rest of working life anyway)
Something I can see myself doing for a long while
The highest paid job I’ll have ever had.
I really really really need this one, now more than ever.
I’m ready, prepared, confident, well qualified etc…
But this is the one…
I’ve so gotta nail it, and it’s only the first of two interviews tomorrow but first impressions and all that
Wish me luck peeps, and any advice?

Good luck, be yourself try to relax. Have a question up your sleeve for the end. Wear a suit.

Imagine your naked.

someone on here suggested it, and it did help me,

ask if they have any questions regarding ability after the interview. If nothing else might give you a second chance on some questions.

and

ask if they do a share save or similar, just shows you are interested in the longer term and not just a year or so.

All preparation done, questions at the end won’t be a problem. You know the company and can talk with knowledge about it and the industry. Don’t forget that you’re interviewing them too.
Put some banging tunes on in the car or on the ipod, relax and enjoy it.

Imagine your naked what?

oh! imagine you are naked…. never found that works to be honest

I think your supposed to imagine them naked….
Apparently it can help with nerves etc ?

Research company , how old it is, where they started out etc.
Have at least 2 questions ready ( Neither of which can be about holiday allowance)
Be 15 mins early
Dont have a fag outside , throw the butt on the ground and walk in smelling like an ashtray, in fact dont have a fag until afters
Dont cross your arms
Be ready for the ‘What are your weaknesses?’ Question. Answer ” I probably care too much”
Clean your nails

Feel confident in your appearance – so take care to wear something you feel is 100% suitable.

Have some well though out questions for them.

Remember you are interviewing them as much as they are interviewing you.

Ask as many questions about their organisation that you feel that you can get away with, but not obvious ones that you can find out online or that you should already know.
But interesting well reserched questions that really shows that you are interested.

Definitely no whisky to calm your nerves before. Nor half a bottle like one chap did before meeting me once (for a very short time)

I do quite a few interviews and am involved in the management of recruitment for my employer.

1. Be yourself.
2. Know the company.
3. Be Honest
4. Be yourself.
5. Have some questions to ask them; it’s as much about you knowing them as them knowing you.
6. Be yourself.
7. No swearing!! (don’t ask!)
8. Be yourself.

Very good advice. I always approach it like I am interviewing them as much as they are me.

Interviews work both ways.

What if you are suitable for them but they aren’t suitable for you?

Ask the kinds of questions that will give you those kinds of insight.

Agree totally with being honest and being completely yourself. No point in bullshitting your way in and burning up during the probation.

Laugh and smile. It’s an interview. They WANT to know about you.

So tell them.

After responding to a question, don’t be afraid to ask if it answered their question. It can give you the chance to clear anything up and expand on points if they want further detail. Otherwise there may be the presumption that you’ve answered the question when actually you could have done so slightly clearer/differently

Be comfortable talking about yourself and being a perfectionist isn’t a strength.

Be fully prepared to lie if necessary? Not sure if this is good advise or not but I have had competency based interviews before where they asked for an example of something I simply hadn’t done. Don’t think a ‘it hasn’t happened to me but if it did this is what I would have done’ would have worked. Good luck.

A different approach would be one where the answer would be one where you talk about a weakness you used to have and explain how you overcame it.

Question them. Lots. My philosophy is you’re interviewing them as much as them interviewing you. Hard to not come across as an arse, but get a good few probing questions in.

Followed by “Nice tits”.

Don’t be afraid of silence, take your time before answering questions.

If this is the final interview, turn of the selling mode. You have the job on skills, this will be more about fit. You will have lots of things that you want to say but avoid verbal diarrhoea – condense each answer to three v simple points and hopefully they will pick up on one and repeat. This avoids a monologue.

Watch body language carefully and have fun.

be honest, but turn it into a positive, like others have said, pick a past weakness that you have addressed, or are addressing.

Have some opinions.
Don’t slag off previous employers etc.

Advice I was given for negative questions was that Time is your friend. I.e. X years ago Y happened but since then I have done ABC and now everything is better than it ever was.

I have a call on Wednesday for a job that would save me about 2 hours a day commuting and get me back to commuting by bike – both of these are big pluses!

I was asked this question last year at an interview. I looked at him, I hesitated, then asked hin if he was being serious asking me this question.
I didn’t get the job and glad that I didn’t.
Who wants to work for a company with such a backward recruitment process?

No harm in preparing for the strength/weakness questions though as it can be quite an interesting exercise. Ther’s plenty of websites that’ll give hints and there’s no right answer as one man’s strength is another man’s weakness.

Someone I know and trust in recruitment’s advice to most people is don’t talk too much or as she puts it ‘just think – “next one to talk dies”‘. Don’t feel you need to fill all the blank space.

My favourite question to ask when being interviewed is ‘if I was to take this position I would want to be fabulous; what does fabulous look like to you here?’ Then nod sagely at whatever they say. If the response is all about hard work, long hours and one way flexibility it’s probably time to reach for the door. Interviews are two way things.

Rephrase it slightly and it’s useful though – we often ask “what do you see as your areas for development”. This is about whether you meet the whole job description, what you see as career development and how we’re going to help you to develop. We rejected an otherwise strong candidate last month as we couldn’t meet any of his aims/ development areas so in all likelihood he would get bored and move on quickly.

Well…. that was good, I think.
I answered all their questions with full, relevant answers and with a smile on my face and there was no horrible silences

Will find out by Friday if I’ve done well enough to go into the 2nd stage.
However the good news is they are looking for 2 people to fill the roles so I’ve doubled my chances…
Thanks for all the advice guys, just waiting for Friday now. In the grand scheme of things that’s nothing as I first applied for the job in August!!!!!
Oh, and there was no “weakness” questions” nor was the questions on anything else I’d prepared for, typical
