I see. I’ll wait a bit and watch for an advert that may or may not appear then.

    Don’t get the openbox thing.

You just going to pop up every few months with vague whisperings on incoming services?

I have openbox and get all channels including mvies and sport and PPV, miss some HD channels but can live with that

Not at all. Just it’s quite hush hush Obviously.

As the antithesis to this thread – just ordered Sky Q (have HD at moment) with 2 x multi-room, full package to compliment Amazon Prime and Netflix.

Looking forward to watching F1 in 4k

We’ve just cancelled Sky with a Q box because they couldn’t provide good enough broadband (via BT) to support the box (<15 mbps, often 1 mbps) and simply wouldn’t admit to it.

They sent out four engineers who all came in, suggested cabling changes and boosters, and ‘if only that wall wasn’t there..’ and didn’t once say that they are selling a service that they can’t provide in this area.

Utterly useless. Although the box, when working, was nice. Unfortunately, it would freeze at least four times during a live (rather than recorded) game of rugby. 🙁

You could sack off Sky and put the money on to a decent car. Hardly anything decent on TV nowadays anyway and certainly not worth over £900 per year, plus spunking load on the latest High def, ultra dynamic 4k range is just a stupid ‘investment’.
I prefer to demonstrate my wealth by procuring silk underwear and spending time in the library we had built on the east wing.

You could say the same about wasting money on a car.

    Curses.

I just went through the Virgin selection process, then my Sky Login. So to get what I have now with only potentially faster – 100mbs rather than 30mbs – broadband for £55 + £39 for the Sport & Movies = £94 for 12 months then £115

Well unless you include the ability to record 7 programs at once, but I dont need that.

Oh and confirmed on my customer page – Discovery & Eurosport “may remove thier service” from Feb 1.

    Guess I’m stuck with my £80 a month…

    I’ve just stayed with Sky

£36 for fibre/telephone and Sky Freesat

Tried HumaxFreesat box and just didn’t like it.

Toying with getting Eurosport for £40 a year but don’t think I even watch it enough for that

Apparently Sky profits down 10%, because they have bid more for sports, so that will get passed on to customers…

I spent half the day looking at alternatives after hearing we will be losing discovery and eurosport. That plus dave and alibi is all we watch APART FROM F1 which leaves us snookered.

Bt want 50 a month for fibre broadband (essential as normal is 1 meg here) which is 20 more than sky and virgin dont have cable in our street.

Feel pretty upset by it all really..

Until i saw the vodafone chat 🙂 bet they will be getting a load of customers 🙂

Only cos I’m ill but would rather read/keep busy/make money or ride!

We’ve got 36mbs with talktalk, so presume it will be the same with Sky – have no problem streaming 4k content at the moment

    It’s not an investment, it’s a consumable

I like watching films and tv in decent quality, so choose to spend money on it

V6 is supposed to be shit hot (super quick, record 6 channels and watch a 7th, 1tb), but not really had a problem with TiVo – it is not quick, but it’s not si slow that you’ll die waiting for it.

I ditched Sky last year – they tempted me back with the fibre BB for a tenner a month, and free Variety pack, without HD…but that still had Eurosport so a bit gutted im losing it. I can live with that. I have BT Sport for what little football I get to watch, and the MotoGP and UFC. Eurosport and Bike Channel made up 75% of any Tv I watch, you can guess what for. If I was made to pay for it again, I just dump it altogether…Bike Channel is free to air so never stops (its also on Freesat BTW) and Eurosport Player seems to have better cycling coverage than the actual TV channel does anyway. I don’t understand why anyone pays the stupendous fees Sky charge for mostly channels of utter dirge. The sports channels are just abysmal these days, Skys own dramas aren’t much good, with the exception of Fortitude I guess, and lets be honest, you can get GoT and Westworld from many far cheaper places, which are the only 2 series I actively watch on there. I watch FAR more from Amazon and Netflix, which are absolute bargains IMHO.

If it ever launches… it’s nearly a year late. In September 2015 it was going to launch by April 2016.

Spoke to some of my old colleagues at Sky who say they have endless problems with the Sky Q system,
The main box is fine but the multiroom boxes seem to have issues keeping hold of a connection, especially in large houses or ones with solid internal walls,
This was echoed by a house I was visiting the other day who has it and has exactly the same issues.

Thing is later this year Sky’s plan is to offer a complete streaming service between the existing Satellite content but above whats currently on offer on Now TV.

I’ve got a combination of Amazon Prime, Netflix, BT & iPlayer.

Way cheaper than Sky & I only pay for what I want to watch – not bored yet!

Of course there are various providers out there usually based in far away countries who provide live streaming of all these programmes for free. Not that I would consider using them of course. I mean watching rugby is not that important is it?

Confirmed on the Sky site now

    https://www.sky.com/help/articles/changes-to-sky-channels

    What is changing?
From 1 February, Discovery Communications’ portfolio of channels are unlikely to be available in Sky TV packages.

    Which channels does this include?
In the UK and Ireland, this includes DMAX, Animal Planet, ID, Eurosport 1, Eurosport 2, Discovery Shed, Discovery Home & Health, Discovery History, Discovery Science, Discovery Turbo, Discovery, TLC and Quest.

This would be a good time to remind everyone that the yearly subscription rate for the Eurosport player is reduced to £20 until January 31st .

    Normally £60 .

No, this would be an excellent time!

Thanks, with my Quidco cashback funds in my PP account that’s cost me £8 for the year.

Anyone else thinks it’s a bit fishy that the Eurosport player sale finishes the same day that Eurosport might go dark on sky?

And how long has it been £50 a year? Didn’t it used to be £3 a month?

Just renwewed with sky. Line rental, unlimited fibre (FTTC) and the basic originals TV pack. £28.50 all in. That’s cheaper than most companies charge for phone and broadband. SKY are OK to haggle with, but you do need to haggle.

How are people haggling with Sky? Going via the cancellation people? Had two entirely fruitless conversations with idiots who when asked if they could give me a better deal than my current £67 per month (gone up from the initial £45 per month), the best they can offer is £69 per month! They couldn’t quite understand that me paying £2 more a month didn’t constitute a better deal in my eyes!!!

Must admit, without Discovery I’m not all that bothered about the TV so may just see what offers they have on fibre and calls.

You have to cancel. After 10 days retentions team from Derby 01332 number will call you. Refuse at least the first offer. Hint at what you would like however. Wait for call back then go for it.
I’ve just renewed, full box set package with movies and sports in hd, telephone line rental and unlimited fibre bband (tested at 36mb) for £52.40 a month with no contract.

    Eum, yay!

Wheeler dealers stays, and we get to see the Giro.

    Are you sure ?

Having looked it up, it is.

After a public war of words and warnings of a possible blackout, Sky and Discovery Communications have come to terms on a new carriage deal for 12 channels, hours before the previous contract was due to expire.

I did make this point a couple of days ago.

Very suspicious timing of the dispute vs player sale deadline.

Are Sky not the only* bad guys….

*they definitely are one, not disputing that.

Also, we’re being treated to messages on Discovery channels stating “thanks for your support, we are pleased to tell you we will be broadcasting and would like to thank you, without your support we’d not be here” or something equally obnoxious.

Can’t think who would actually plead with them to stay, but guess Discovery looked at the numbers and thought “yeah, so William run those rating figure expectations by me once more when we do pull out of Sky” and thought, ahh shite we’re gonna need more substance and subscriptions to fund our Man WithHandiCam programs..

But hey, as said at least the Giro is on the big screen.
