I know the Superstar V6 hubs were plagued with loose end cap issues when they were first released, has anyone had any lately, if so are these problems sorted?

Many Thanks

Jay

I've got a pair from when they were very first released that had slight loose endcaps on the front (still worked fine in the bike though). Superstar sent out new tighter fitting caps to everyone who'd bought a set for free and without any prompting which have been fine since (and a new freehub as supposedly they'd had reports of failures - although mine had been fine). Wouldn't hesitate to recommend them and their customer service seems to have improved a lot compared to the slating they used to get a few years ago.

I was sent new pawls, then a complete new freehub and new tighter fitting end caps. I've not actually used them yet but it seems like good customer service as they're being proactive rather than just replacing if/when a failure occurs.

My brother had a freehub failure on the v1 freehub.

The end caps of the front hub are quite loose and can fall out easily when the wheel is outside the fork. I could live with this issue, but still annoying

However I have significant problems with my rear hub: https://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/loose-freehub-ratchet-advise/

I bought a custom build front around March this year with torque caps and as above the caps are loose enough to be easily knocked off when fitting into the fork. Annoying yes, thankfully I don't need to frequently remove it. Haven't enquired about tighter fitting ones. Also the sleeve inside the hub can be knocked off centre meaning it needs to be realigned before the axle will fit. They told me to put some grease on it to hold in place 🤔

Well I think loose ends caps might be the least of your worries with these

I'm just back from a riding holiday in Torridon where one of the lads felix had a brand new set he had been saving of these(laced to flow rims)fall apart in 2days. The freehub cracked, it looked like the hub shell was ovalised, the screw in ratchet teeth fell out. Day ruined and had to rent a bike for the rest of the trip.

I personally would not touch anything superstar do.

I've a pair in standard QR format on my cyclocross bike. Think they'd fixed the issues before I got them. No loose end caps or issues at all with them over ~3 thousand km and bearings still seem perfect. Would probably buy again especially for the discounted wheelset price that I bought.

Hello we have been making a few small tweaks over the thousand or so Hubsets since launch, as you would expect. We have had a small number of different issues, again nothing out of the ordinary. A lot of them seem to be personal preference things like tightness of seals or endcaps.

Currently I would be surprised if anyone complains about the endcaps being loose, if anything people are now complaining about them being too tight! Only changed them 0.1mm.

I’m not aware of dumbots problems, pm me with more information. I’ve not seen a cracked freehub and definitely no ovalised hubshells?

If you do get any problems please let us know so we can sort them. For the people we sent new freehubs with a letter saying change them over, please actually do that and save yourself any potential problems in future.

So in summary we get very few issues now and we will always sort you out if you do.

@superstarcomponents
The guy with the faulty hub/ratchet ring mentioned by dumbots is me, I sent you the damaged hub earlier this week (including the loose ring + damaged freehub due to the loose ring) and received my "fixed" wheel back on Thursday, however now after the wheel was "fixed", by inserting a new ring in the hub, the freehub is not spinning properly anymore as soon as the wheel is in the frame. I will send you a copy of my email by pm too.

Ok I’ll respond to the PM but basically I need to to go through basic fault finding to help me exactly locate the issue. I’m sure it’s super simple to sort.
