    its gone!

Not so exciting is the increasing flytipping. Its on private land but I’ve still reported to the LBC. Multiple letters/correspondence to the same address.

Tended to ‘my garden’ – scrub land that I’ve adopted.
Japanese knotweed is on its way back up again, I pull it/hack it and dump it into a pile (doesn’t leave site).
Half a dozen small table ‘Xmas trees’ that MrsRNP had in her community kitchen last year are slowly growing.
Ferns are starting to unfurl and various other things/plants are sprouting.
    Slowly getting there.

One bag of usual litter/bagged dog shit collected.

Excellent. I like a bit of guerrillas gardening. I’ve a colleague who does it all across London. They’re 10 years in and by all accounts some of the sites have basically become really nice micro parks…

Its an area of land opposite our house over the other side of a river that we look out onto.
It slopes down to the river and was covered in JK & Himalayan balsam.

I have no idea what I’m doing from a gardening point but I keep planting conkers and acorns in it so something will grow at some point!

    What’s Bert looking up at?
Doesn’t he know that dogs can’t look up?

Signs and shit sit. Good boy!

    One bag collected.

We got new signs! Lee Quarry doesn’t feature as a tourist venue anymore like it did on the previous sign….booze beats bikes

One bag collected this morning. Bert was yapped at by a bunch of rampaging Dashunds that we’ve never met before and then we bumped into Millie dog and her owner. Millie has such a crush on Bert who doesn’t have time for girlfriends and chases her off🤷‍♂️

    LoL

I collected a bag of rubbish from one of our local walking & cycling routes this weekend while out on a jaunt – and was asked why I was collecting it as ‘That is the councils job’….this on privately owned woodland.

I am sure litter is getting worse again.

    ‘That is the councils job’

See also “dropping litter?……keeps someone in a job that does”

Litter is seasonal – I know that my Monday morning one bag route through the large nearby park becomes a two bagger in summer months.
Litter also breeds litter – the mouth breathers with a very slight inclining of social responsibility won’t drop litter if the area is nice and tidy, however once there’s litter then people just think ‘its a shithole – what difference does another Monster/Redbull can make?’

    The flat can dance

I’VE GOT IT! I know how to make my millions!

    As good as my Unger litter picker is – like all litter pickers it struggles with drinks cans that have been driven over and flattened….so I do the ‘flat can dance’ the steps are;

    1. Left foot toes on the edge of the can
    2. Right foot toes on the other edge of the can
    3. Pivot on heels and sweep toes together thus putting a fold/bend/crease in the can.
    4. Step off can now sitting proud of the floor
    5. Pick up with litter picker – the flat can dance!

I could just do knowing how to make something go viral on Tiktok or YouTube shorts to get my clicks and cash rolling in!

    Until then….one bag collected.

Sometimes I just can’t be bothered picking other people’s crap up and I just go for a normal doggo walk. I still end up doing
    “Poo and two though”

Not done this route for awhile – noticed MrHilux man (guy rough sleeping in a 2door Hilux over winter) now has an old Citroen camper so at least his lot has improved a little.

    Misty no Millie

Bit of a fine mist this morning, wandered to the local park but didn’t see Millie dog, she must be really pining for Bert now!

One not very fully bag collected.

The Yin and Yang of Bert’s life!
One day he’s smiling away with the whole beach to himself and the next he’s picking other people’s shit up!

    Trig points and trash

Evening spent bagging a local trig on a beautiful spring evening the following morning Bert’s picking up litter!

Did some guerilla gardening and sprayed the Himalayan Balsam with Roundup. One bag of litter collected.

    Crochets and crap

Our local graffiti tagger is back in action.
There’s bobbles and back posts* all over Sparrow Memorial gardens. Bert wasn’t impressed!

    One bag litter picked.

    *Other crochet terms are available

    Shiatsu and scratching

One bag of litter collected….. And a dumped in the middle of nowhere shiatsu back massager collected and dropped into the nearest bin. 🤷‍♂️

I can imagine Cougar itching and squirming at the thought of all those scroaty microbes crawling up my hand from that massager!

saturday night Monday morning double bagger

A56 slip road – it must be that in order for cars to get up to speed it’s essential to shed as much weight as possible🤷‍♂️

Went through our local park – someone else has had a tidy but the crows have shredded the black bags. Tidied them up

    Trolley dash Tuesday

The recent fly tipping and burning has been cleared by the LBC and landowner.👍

Think I’ve found my summer project for when the temperature rises – couple of trolleys stuck against the bridge.

A Tesco trolley I spotted the other day returned 1/2mile or so back to store.

    1 bag of litter collected.

Could you use a long rope to grab the trolly from the bridge above?

    matt_outandabout

I was thinking could you hook that…

    RustyNissanPrairie

I’ll just wade in and drag them out, the rivers not very deep – I did similar last year.

No proper litter picking this morning – but still did a ‘poo and two’

Did some guerilla gardening instead. Lots of HB and knotweed starting to sprout.
Disappointing the many hundreds of conkers/horse chestnut and acorns that I seeded on my plot haven’t germinated. The park where I picked up the majority of them have loads of small saplings everywhere.

I’ve not seen any squirrel’s and I wouldn’t have thought they’d have eaten that many even if there are any knocking about.

Maybe the soil is different/not suitable although there are other trees on the plot? 🤷‍♂️

    Sad note

Found a note on a secluded part of this morning’s walk, looks like it was written a few months ago. Hope this person is okay.

Crows have been bin raiding again. Tidied both bins up.

    One full heavy bag collected.

Tidied up bagged dog shit left at the summit and tied to fences also scroaty picnic shite.

I mean, humans do some proper weird stuff, but I will never, ever, ever, understand that tying it in a tree thing. 🤔🙄

Implies some kind of guiding intelligence, which clearly can’t be the case. I prefer ‘evolutionary dead end.’

Had a nice chilled paddle on the Avon near Warwick castle this morning on a local river clean up event for #thebigpaddlecleanup

It was really a Sup thing but I took my Canadian for extra capacity and boy did it come in handy!

We pulled a shopping trolley out of the river, then one car tyre, then another car tyre with wheel. This amongst all the usual crap from humans that finds its way into our rivers.

Harold was very excited but was a bit freaked out having a shopping trolley and car tyres in his sitting space! 😂

    ^Good job Harold 👍

working again today so another morning local walk.

Park was surprisingly tidy – I couldn’t see any other CivicPride’rs bag so I genuinely think people are being tidier in the park at least.
Bert spotted a deer whilst I was tidying the crow’d bag.

Somebody has put signage up on a local path.

    1 bag collected

Quick plop trot round the block (Bert not me).
Aldi trolley dumped in the bushes with its handle smashed off so they could get their quid back. 🤷‍♂️

Dragged to the trolley graveyard behind Aldi.

On a positive note a few of the last autumn’s acorns have sprouted ready for transplanting to my gorilla garden.
