I’m a bit late to the party and have only just realised that it’s (potentially) possible to wire smart doorbells with your existing chime. However it seems I might not have the right chime. Ours is a Deta c3500a, which takes a 240v feed from the lighting circuit. Apparently the transformer in this isn’t suitable to use with a smart doorbell.
I’ve seen people install a doorbell transformer in a Wylex box next to the chime but this just looks poor in my opinion (it would look really ugly in our hall as the chime is quite visible).
Is there a chime that exists that takes 240v (i.e. has the transformer in it) and is suitable to power a smart doorbell?
Alternatively, I might look at swapping the chime to a lower voltage one and putting a transformer in the consumer unit. Rewiring might not be too arduous as the consumer unit is in a cupboard on the same wall as the chime.
