The key lock works / spins fine but the unlatching lever won't fully lift, so the door won't open.
I have tried lifting it to take the weight of it and wiggle the lever, but no joy. Any tips to free it up, or is it a job for a locksmith?

Had this before. There are 2 hook shaped locking bars in my door which lock into the frame. The gap was wide enough for me to get a thick knife blade in and push them back into the door. I then took the whole mech out and cleaned it (full of leaves, dead flies and spider webs) and lubed it with GT85. It's been fine ever since. Good luck!

This sounds like a problem my Mum has with her sliding door. The locking hook thing attached to the door can get snagged on the catch in the frame. You need to make sure the door it is pushed fully closed, which may need a good shove.

Cheers both.
Managed to open it with pushing / pulling / lifting / silicone spray.
It looks like it has a broken spring loaded plungery thing which steps you operating the locking mechanism unless it is pushed closed. Can't see how you would replace it without removing the glass to access it.
Might get some quotes in and see whether it is worth getting it repaired or replaced
